    Upper lip tie

My DD is almost 10 weeks. We have always been able to breastfeed and her growth is amazing but I think (almost 100% certain) she may have an upper lip tie that is affecting her feeding.

She clicks, has a hard time controlling the flow, slips off or milk leaks out due to poor latch, she nipple feeds, is highly gassy and has been prescribed Zantac.

She gains weight because she is ALWAYS on the boob. I never get a chance to put her down because she always appears hungry and gets hysterical unless I let her feed again. And each time it is a proper feed not a snack.

I don't experience any pain when feeding but that's because my boobs are numb from feeding a three year old with all her acrobatics.

Everyone has told me that she will get better as she gets older but there has been no improvement since birth.

Has anyone else experienced this?? Who do I go to for diagnosis? I would take her to my gp but I know he will just fob me off and tell me not to worry as her weight gain is great.

    Hi,
Your first stop would probably be an LC. You can ask your CHN or at the hospital to see if they can recommend someone, or else find a private one here or here. You can ask when you call around what experience they have with tongue tie - they may even be able to suggest a course of action over the phone. Generally, it's either a pead dentist or a paediatrician who will release the ties. You may or may not need a referral, but they can let you know.
What's her nappy output like? Do you think it's possible you have an oversupply? What you describe sounds like it could be due to that, but would need more info to nut it out. An LC could help determine this, also.
    Good luck.

I would find an IBCLC and have them check for a Tongue Tie as well. We saw a dentist for my sons revision. Where are you located?
Also ULT & TT can cause long term dental, speech, and stomach issues.

    Re: Upper lip tie

I'm located in Cranbourne Victoria. But will go anywhere in the state to get this sorted.

I never saw a LC while in hospital because she could latch and was feeding well. The nurses saw no point in it.

I'm going through your links and will be definitely contacting someone ASAP. In the mean time, I'm attending a drop in session with the aba on Wednesday.

    Fingers crossed

Dr Kestenburg at Coburg Dental is highly recommended.
