    ? about infection after D&C

Hi, Im a bit new to this. I recently had D&C after blighted ovum and ended up with a bad infection from the operation, just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and how long it took to feel "normal" again?

    Hi Frogy
I had a D&C after a miscarrage last year and the DR's wasn't sure why I had severe pain so they gave me 2 types of anit biotics and pain killers and sent me home. It took me a few weeks to feel better.
Try a good multi vit as it could help if your feeling run down.
    Hope I have helped.
    Cheers
    Chris

    Hi frogy,
I tried to post this a couple of minutes ago but it didn't show up, so I apologise if it comes up twice.
I've had several bad infections. You should be taking or have finished some really strong antibiotics, doxycyline and Flagyl or Keflex and Flagyl?? About 10 days/2 weeks? Feeling "wiped out" is normal after finishing those, but if you still feel sick then you need to go back to the doctor.
As Chris said, once you've finished the ABs it will take a few weeks to feel better. Gynae infections can be very serious. A multivit is a good idea...get plenty of iron in your diet or otherwise.....and just nurture yourself. If you still feel quite pulled down in a month's time, then I'd say you should see your doctor again.

    Frogy, hugs!
If you're still having trouble with bleeding, then definitely take an iron tab AND eat as much iron rich food as you can. If you like liver (or even if you don't!) now is the time to have some.
My first infection went untreated for a long time because I couldn't get anyone to believe I was sick.

Hi Castle, thanks for your support. I think i am frustrated with the doctors most of all, even when i was in hospital on Iv antibiotics i couldnt get a straight answer on what i was being treated for, and i still dont know what tests they did (and there were heaps!) or the results. Im so confused and frustrated at the moment. I have found its almost impossible to be on complete bed rest just watching the mess acumulate esspecially now that i am starting to feel a bit better.

    Hi Frogy
If you decide to get a multi vit, go to a chemist and talk to someone who knows about vit's who can tell you about them even if you go to coles and buy it later. I found out that the multi vit I got was not as good as I thought it would be(Its a big advertised brand). Also you might get a yeast infection (which don't help matters) try and eat garlic rich food and some yogurt (I did and didn't get yeast infection )
Don't worry your not blabbing, I think I know how you feel I've been going through it (the fight with Dr's and feeling like crap) for the past year.
I agree with castle (hi castle!!) go see your Dr if you don't pick up in the next month.

    take care
    Chris

Im taking the iron tablets and also drinking the pro biotic yogurts to stop the yeast thing (i dont think i could handle that after everything) Just wondering, Doctor told me today that we can start TTC after my next cycle, that just sounds a bot scary - im scared that i will get another infection or that i will miscarry again. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Frogy, they probably have no idea about your infection, which is why you couldn't get a straight answer. If it was not caused by an STD, then it was likely from some of the normal vaginal bacteria. As you probably know we all carry around lots of bacteria, some good and some bad. Sometimes the bad ones will grab an opportunity to grow like crazy, especially when your genital tract/uterus has to be disturbed in some way. Either that, or some of the nasties that are floating around in ANY hospital got up there.
Anyway, my point is, those bacteria are often hard to culture. I've had a number of swabs taken when I had infections and every time they showed nothing.
You should be OK to ttc after your next cycle. The doctor will want you to have a period because a normal period is a good sign that your uterus is healthy (in fact, it's the best sign). Then, yes, you will be OK to ttc. My 3rd was conceived 2 cycles after I finished treatment for my first & worst infection.
Once you've been through an experience like this, you will never lose that fear of infection or m/c. There really isn't anything you can do about it. HUGS. I hope you'll be able to feel supported on BB.
Your doctor may want you to take ABs during pregnancy. I had to do this for 5 days every month, to lower the risk of another infection.
I hope you don't get a yeast infection, but if you do, get on it straightaway.
    You should feel better soon!

    Hi Frogy
Iron is a great idea and if your going to be TTC soon get some folate.
If it was me i would wait till all the infection had cleared and I was off anti biotics before I would TTC but it is up to you.
I also have the fear of another m/c (but as they say you can be hit by a car crossing the road but we still cross the road).

    Take care
    Chris

Thank u both for sharing your stories and information with me, it makes such a diffence to know that there are other people out there, sometimes i feel like no one could possibly understand. My partner tries to help but is getting frustrated with me "just lying around" and dosent have the same concept of cleaning up that i do, oh well i guess you get that. Folate is a good idea (having spina bifida in family especially), i had forgotten all about it since i had the ultrasound and found out that the baby i had been loving and holding inside me wasnt really there at all, it was horrible waiting to see the little one on the screen and just seeing an emply sac. To me it still feels like i have lost one. The doctors tell me that it dosent mean anything that i have had 2 blyted ovums in a row and will only test after 3. Guess I will just have to keep fingers crossed and thank god for the 2 beautiful children i have with me

    Thanks again

Of course it's horrible for you! And just because it's called a "blighted ovum" doesn't make you feel any better. I should have said right away how sorry I was that you lost your baby.
Your DP has to understand that you really are not well. I had the same problem with my dh. If you have another appt soon, then try to get the doctor to explain to him that you need this recovery time. If he doesn't go with you, then ask the doctor to tell you something that you can quote to him about that. Usually they will take it better from an authority figure.
If you have a history of spina bifida in the family then you should see a doctor before ttc. In that case you are supposed to take way more folate than the average pregnant woman.
