Hey
I have a really wriggly bub, and im scared to cut her nails dont wanna hurt her. More her toe nails than anything.
Can any one give me their hints and tips??
Thanks
Hi Meg
I recommend using the wooden emery boards. They make the nails smooth and it is not a problem if you accidentally rub it across the tip of the finger a couple of times
Getting dh to entertain the boys usually helps - even though I need to keep reminding him that he's supposed to be helping me keep them still, not making them MORE excited and wriggly. :P
If you're really struggling, or it's awhile before you can get your partner to help, you could always try a nail file, you can't really cut them with that. All the best!
Thanks so much, I never thought to do it while she is asleep. Or even file them down. Such great ideas. I tried getting Ben to entertain her, didnt work much. So he is cutting her nails, he seems to do good and not worry so much. I just dont wanna hurt her.
You can buy the baby nail clippers that have a plastic edge so you can't cut skin. Unfortunately they don't cut close enough for me and I have to redo the nails within a couple of weeks but as a stop gap measure they are great.
Oh, and I had a friend who used to bite their kids nails. Gross but effective. Surprisingly her kids don't chew their fingernails now.
I tend to do them over a couple of days, ie cut a few until he has had enough & then try again the next day until they are all done. Haven't thought of the nile file will have to try that.
I use my teeth and rip those scratchy nails off! I check them daily because DS has eczema and claws his skin - I can generally trim about 3 before he really attacks me.
i used te baby nail clippers and made sure i pushed her finger down and away from where i was clipping. havent had any accidents as of yet. i tried to bite them off once and thats when too much came off asi couldnt see what i was doing.
