Ive been having major probs with my baby girl who has now been diagnosed with silent reflux, she was feeding every 2 hrs at night and taking at least 1hr to settle after feeds which as you can imagine i wasnt sleeping atall. i started the infant gaviscon yesterday and for the 1st night last night she only woke once, it was heaven! although still took ages to settle after and was in pain, and has been the same today after her bottles, but its always been worse at night. Does anyone know how long it should take to work? and how succesful it has been for treating ur little ones reflux? my baby 4 weeks prem, and ive had problems from day 1. she holds her breath, sometimes stops breathing, grunts, spits up, and wants to feed very regulary, draws her legs up goes bright red and screams her little heart out after a bottle. And is only consoled when kept upright after her bottles at night, ive propped up her mattress to. would appreciate others views many thanks
I know it works great for a girlfriernd's twins who were premi, but i tried to for DD and it just made her constipated and in pain.. poor thing was pushing and nothing came out.. and didnt make a difference to her reflux. We used it for 3 days (thats how long it took her to poo) and then stopped. Ive since switched her to AR formula and she is so much better. If you are breastfeeding.. id probably go see your doctor to be prescribed something else if its not working or making her worse.
My DD2 had mild reflux, I found the gaviscon effective WHEN I could get it into her - she was BFed so giving the dose was a bit of an issue. I noticed an improvement after a couple of days but in the end the difficulty in giving the medicine to her meant we went back to the dr and asked for something else - they gave us Zantac, it worked a treat and we never looked back.
