I'm pretty sure any reputable tattooist won't do it if you tell them that you're pregnant, because they are creating an open wound that could get infected plus the small risk of disease like Hep B or HIV. The tattoo guy wouldn't even do me because I'm breastfeeding.

I'm quite sure it's a no-no during pregnancy, due to the possibility of blood related diseases being passed on if the equipment isn't properly cleaned. Not only that, there's a possibility of infection.

i was told it was a big no no when we were talking about getting another tattoo and were "potentially" pregnant at the time... so i'd be thinking nope - it's really not worth it

i proudly call myself a tattooed hussy...but as the other lovely ladies say, it's a no-no in pregnancy. it's actually against the law for a reputable tattooist to do you if you are pregnant. there's lots of restrictions for health's sake - no major dental, no piercings, and i can't even give blood again till 12 months post-miscarriage...

I had mine done on my leg when I was around 7 -8 weeks and I didnt know I was PG. Dont do it! It hurts so much more than when you arent pg!!!!!!

No reputable tattooist will tattoo a pregnant woman!! If your tattooist is willing to do so, I would be reconsidering going to him/her in the first place.

    i agree with everyone else.
My Dp does tattoos and he says that no tattooist should even consider doing it while a lady is preg.

Why not hold off, and get a special one done after the birth / nursing? Gives you 9 months to pick an awesome tat! You could even make it about your new baby.

i had mine done when dd was about 4 months old i think, i was breastfeeding at the time (well.. i still am breastfeeding..) my tattooist never asked any questions if i was pregnant or anything. but by the sounds of it, its a no-no.

I was booked in to get one a week after i found out I was pregnant and tattooist said it's a big no-no. Won't do it while your bfing either. In fact, he won't even do a piercing while you're breastfeeding.

    Hi Cruemum

I'm a big fan of tattoos but I know its not good to get one done if you're pregnant, same as if you try to give blood, if you have been tattooed recently they won't let you due to infection. I'd prob give it a miss!

Just re-inforcing what everyone has said... I'd wait. I have a tattoo but that was done while not pregnant. You wouldn't want to spend the rest of your pregnancy worrying about any health consequences darl... and heaven forbid anything did go wrong and you lost the baby due to an infection you would feel devestated. I think that if you have such a strong desire to have this tat then it will remain strong until the risk period is over. I know that once I made up my mind there was no changing it... you won't chicken out once you are completely committed to the idea... just my thoughts

As everyone else has already said, its not considered safe enough to take the risk plus when your preg it hurts so much more. I have also heard that your body can repel it - pushing some of the ink out treating it like a foriegn invader threatening your growing bub!

I was planning to get some more done but am having to wait, I was wondering if it can be done when BF?? Cause if we have another after this bub, then I may well still be BF when I get preg next - and I dont want to have to wait years till I can get my next tatt done!!!

I wouldn't get it done just for the pain factor alone (besides the infection risk. When I was pregnant just having the hairdresser comb my hair a bit too hard brought tears to the eyes!

Id say wait and also make sure you are fully immunized and had your latest boosters for needles transmitted diseases...
I'm pregnant now and found out I'm not immunized for rubella! Doc told me not to go anywhere near anyone with a rash!
