    Totem Animals

Hi- im not sure if this is the right place for this thread... please forgive my dribble..

But i was just wondering if our totem animals can interact with our pets..

I recently saw a tarot reader and i enquired about what my totem animal was- i cant say i have ever really made a connection with one- though i beleive we have them- so i asked if she could tell me..

She said she saw a Black Panther, which i can relate to on a few levels. One reason is that i always seem to have a black animal as a pet... it started with my first dog- i had dreamed of a black puppy with a white patch that i would call Sam- i had dreamed of this dog since i was a little kid- and then when i was about 20 my Dh's (then BF) dog (a white bull terrior with brindle patches) and our friends dog (a grey whimerana) DTD and produced 9 black puppies with white spots. I chose the runt and named him Sammy. He was the most loyal and dependable dog in the world- he was protective and was literally my best friend.

Sadly he passed away after being hit by a car, and in the meantime i got a black cat with a white patch who was just the funniest cat- she had kittens and i kept a male kitten- also black with white patches..

Then we decided to get another dog- we saw a Free to Good home ad for a doggie and went to check him out and yep- he was a big black mastiff with white patches, called Zane. We took him home and he is definatly My dog as opposed to being both mine and DH's.

So i guess my question is- does my panther come to me via my pets or is the panther hanging with them??? Any thoughts or ideas are appriciated...

    TIA

I think that the black panther is coming through your pets rather than playing with them. I think in a subconscous way the colouring of your pets is reminding you that the black panther is with you & now that you are aware of it that you can draw on it's strengths as well.

JMO anyway, what do you think?

The totem animal energy is much larger than 'pet' energy - but I do think you are subconsciously connecting with your totem by choosing pets that share some of the qualities of your totem.

BTW - in order to fully explore your totem you need to understand its shadow-side - its dangerous/powerful/destructive side. You cannot hope to work with your totem fully without understanding this because this is where a lot of your self-awareness will come from.

My totem is a puma and the most interesting thing I've had happen is when he inhabited my cat, my cat didn't look like herself and didn't feel like herself and had "puss" (my totem animal - he won't tell me his name) like look in her face.

Marydean is correct - you need to understand both sides of your totem to fully work with your totem - I've seen mine rip a person apart in the astral

    Thanks guys!!

I do feel that my black pets have always been my protectors.. even my little pussy cat- lol he was staunch!! and yes i have ALWAYS been attracted to black animals and other pets i have had that werent black just never seemed as important to me or have the same connection with me.

In saying that i have never made contact with my totem animal- just always beleived that it is there and never really knew what or who he was until recentlyt when i iasked the tarot reader and even then i am only going by what she has said and then relating it back to my experiences with my pets- so maybe as i am still in the baby step stage of exploring my spiritual side- my panther has felt that this is the best way to make contact with me- through my pets that is.

Like with everything to do with the spiritual world- i have alot of thoughts and ideas that i have never really known how to put into practice- its something i have alway thought about exploring- but have never really bitten the bullet and tried with the kind of dedication i beleive it needs to really work. It is something i would like to explore more fully- but i feel i need guidence to do it- and to quote punkin from another thread i have read- when the student is ready- the teacher will come.. i am kind of waiting and biding my time for the right person to come along to help me on my path.

Thanks for all your insights ladies!

Starbright - any thing you can do to develop and honour your intuition will put you on the right path. Good luck with it, it's a wonderful journey.

Sorry for a quick hijack - how would you find out what your totem animal is?

I am really curious about exploring different types of spirituality and have become "lost" since recent events and am hoping to reconnect.

NN, I "see" mine when I'm meditating or working (healing)...I first learnt about them through some really vivid, repeating dreams I was having. I think the best way is to hold it in your intent (ie connect with your angels, guides, totems) and then start to look out for hints from the Universe. You may find that you resonate with a particular animal's energy - that may also be a sign for you.

    Thanks Marydean,
I seem to have a connection with most animals and as a result have quite a menagerie (an advantage of farm living) but if I was to pick one type, I seem to do exceptionally well with dogs so maybe a dog or wolf....
I have to learn to trust the universe and its workings again - maybe I should buy some cards again (my decks got burnt after niki died)

Thanks again I will see what comes my way

Prama, the energy is there for you to learn some of life's lessons from - if that's what you want. Like any thing in the psychic/spiritual realm, you engage with it as much as you choose to. Many people go through life and never connect with it at all. Probably the best thing you can do is meditate on the animal, ask what the lessons are that it brings. There are lots of good books about animal/totem spirituality which might be a good starting point if you're interested but not sure yet if you want to engage with it, kwim?
