    I'm not putting on weight!

    Morning Ladies

I'm not sure if i'm just being alarmist and reading too many books and reading too much into them... but i'm starting to worry that i've virtually put on no weight!

I am 5.7" (almost 5.8") and started out weighing 70kgs. Am now 18.5 weeks preggers and only put on half a kilo. The book i have at home says i would have put on at least 5kg by now?? WTF is that right or what? I am eating good (mostly) - i admit i've had HJ's probs a few times in the last mth, am not eating everything i see but not starving self just eating when hungry.

am i about to explode? What are other ladies experiences? this is my first. am i late bloomer?

    ur feedback is much appreciated

hun, i'm 12 weeks and have actually lost about 10kg - my doc isn't at all concerned. you may find that you yourself have lost about the same as the baby has gained. if you've been eating healthy it shouldn't be a drama. talk to your doc on next visit

books only state averages - but averages have to have people that gain more and less to make them an average kwim?

My Dr did not weigh me at all during pregnancy, and when I asked him, he said he only weighs if there is GD present... And I didnt put on any weight till the last month, where I put on the grand total of 7kgs...

Mention it to your Dr, but dont worry too much... HTH

Well if you really want you can have some of my weight I've put on 17kg's. I am 5'6" and weighed 50kg when i fell pg so was underweight if anything. As long as you are eating good foods and drinking loads of water your baby will be fine.
You are normal, normal, normal and normal.

    Hi,

I am 15 weeks and only put on a kilo. As long as you are eating well and drinking lots of water, all should be OK.

Same as tiggerlinda, I put on more doing IVF and Clomid......

Though my GP said that since I have hormone issues, I will probably find that I won't put on much weight, as my body goes back to normal levels when pregnant....

Though make sure you mention it to your Ob.

I put on 4kgs last pregnancy.... DS weighed over 4kgs. LOL
I am bigger though, and my appetite went down, so I wasn't eating and I was sick everyday until after giving birth. I don't think it's a huge issue, as long as everything else is going well, that you are eating well, and that you feel fine.
You should consider yourself Lucky... I have heard of some people who gain a Tonne during pregnancy.

thanks ladies as usual good to know i'm 'normal'

i had a gf who put 30kg on during whole 1st preg. but think it might have had to do with her maccas obsession.

also a lot of the people at work keep looking at my belly (and asking again how far along i am) - makes me think they think i'm having a phantom pregnancy

HELLO: i can't fake these hormonal outbursts

It's rather concerning when you read all these books that tell you how your pregnancy should be. Each pregnancy and woman is different so i cant see how a book can tell you what should happen, you know? I put on 30kgs in first pregnancy, 10kgs in second. This time however i'm 28 weeks and in first tri i lost 5-6kgs and i still havent gained any back so if probably lost more than that. I can see i have lost weight in my face, arms and bum but i know bub is fine cause i have a huge belly!

As long as u are eating healthy, i wouldnt worry too much about it - i only put on 5.6kgs with my pregnancy and my OB was not at all worried.
Enjoy it while it last - cause who knows in the last trimester u may put on HEAPS!!!!

I am like briggsy's girl I have lost 10 kilos this time, my GP isn't concerned either. I had mad m/s in the 1st tri and still have no appetite so I just make sure I eat lots of fruit and vegies rather than junk food.

Last time around I lost about 6 kilos and then put on about 8 in the last few weeks.

yes, no need to worry! It really depends on what you started out at before you got pregnant. Underweight women put on more weight and overweight women often put on less, or none or even lose some!

I am 174cms tall (5"8/5"9) and weighed 59kgs when I got pregnant... I have put on 10.5kgs so far - so about to hit 70kgs. This is about right for me, as I was very lean to start with....last pregnancy started out at 58kgs and put on about 14.5kgs or so.

just eat right, exercise, drink loads of water and your body will do the rest!!

yeah, could just be a late bloomer! I was! It took me weeks, tho it was before 18wks (not much tho). I came out of the bathroom and said "I've put on xkg!" and dh's Nan, who didn't know I hadn't put on any yet, told me " Of course! You're pregnant!" as if I didn't know that I was going to put on weight! I was annoyed at the time - pg hormones - but found if funny a few days later!

No need to worry. As long as bubs is growing well, it doesn't matter how much/little weight we put on. I lost weight all through the first trimester, and have put on 6kg at 29 weeks. There's no hard and fast rules with weight gain - every woman is different.

I had gained nothing at 14 weeks and was worried and now at 24 weeks (and since getting my appetite back) I've gained 12 kgs I was concerned I'd gained too much in so little time! My pre pregnancy weight was 48kg and now I'm 60kg. I think it's a huge shock either way: gaining nothing/losing weight or gaining heaps. I agree, our bodies know what they're doing and as long as we're keeping active, eating healthy and drinking plenty of water it should all be good
