How to celebrate Christmas when so heavily pregnant?

DH family usually takes turns in taking Christmas Day lunch. Last year it was my MIL place and thats great cause its just up the road. But this year it is at the Aunties place and thats about an hour drive each way. My SIL suggested that they change it for this year so that we are close to home in case bump decides to arrive.

We thought that was a great idea so that way we wouldn't miss out as I am not that happy about traveling that far from home or from my hospital and my Dr so close to bump arriving. But they have decided that they wont change it and they will still have it at the Aunties place. We explained that we would not be able to make it because I am not comfortable being so far from home so close to bump arriving.

So my question is while the entire family will be off having a lovely lunch and celebrating what can I do at home for me and DH and still make it special?

    Hey Puppies

This year our Xmas is meant to be at the SIL place, but we have said we prob won't be going as its just to close for comfort especially if I'm still pregnant. They only live about 45mins from our place and prob an hour from my hospital. So don't want to take any chances especially with this being my 2nd pregnancy as most labours are faster 2nd time around!

Looks like my mum will come stay with me and DP and we are going to have a lovely lunch and for me it might be more fun as Charlotte is getting lots of pressies, so will prob set up some of her toys etc.
Maybe make the most of being just you and DH and have a real special day, as it will be your last as a couple! And just think there won't be as much cleaning up after dinner as its just the 2 of u!

    Hope I've helped u out

FWIW, a first baby isn't likely to arrive without lots of warning so even if you are an hour away from your hospital you would probably be able to drive there and still have lots of time to spare.
That said why don't you go out to lunch at a nice restaurant. Once bubs arrives going to a restaurant will be a totally differant experience so it might be nice to treasure one last bub free meal out.

My DD was due on 31 December 2007 but came 2 January 2008. There was no way I was travelling at all for Christmas.

Unsure about ideas for Christmas for you both, just enjoy the time together before your little one comes along!!

I had the same fear about travelling that far so close to my due date (although I did up until 2 days before my due date because I didn't really have a choice) and although you're fairly safe its really not pleasant travelling over an hour in the car when your 38+ weeks pregnant! And would be even worse in this heat...

i agree with Dach, go out to lunch and enjoy eating without holding a baby! Or go to the beach. Or somewhere with a pool!

I would be all for pj day together... a quiet breakfast, a lovely chat about how amazing next xmas will be with bump. Some snacky foods throughout the day... xmas movies to bring tears to your eyes (very xmas spirit).
DH and I often have a quiet xmas day and its wonderful... even have some friends over if you feel like it. Its a nice gift to choose to share the day with whoever you want. We often have friends come to us to avoid their families lol... they bring kids and its amazing to watch little ones at xmas and know that there are no formalities or protocols...

Yeah! Go for lunch somewhere swish
Or go for a picnic (somewhere shady and cool).
Do you have any friends who will be 'orphans' on Christmas day that you could catch up with for morning tea or something?

Actually you got me thinking. I know I will be getting DH some dvd's for Christmas. Maybe just veging out all day watching dvd's in our PJ's sounds great. I can always cook a baked chicken for our lunch anyway. We are not that big on restaurants anyway. Hmm thanks got me thinking now!

PUppies - me and my DH aren't travelling anywhere this Xmas and have decided to stay home together with the dogs and just relax..... we are actually looking forward to the fuss-free christmas!!! And i'll be heavily pregnant also so don't want to be travelling far in the heat anyway.

Stay home, relax and make the most of it before bubs comes!!!

I think it's worked out well for you hun. I was nearly 8 months pg at Christmas time with DS1 and I would have much preferred a quite Christmas with my DH. Christmas is usually hot and of course you get tired so easily, so it's great to be somewhere where there are no expectations on you. If you want to rest you can, if you want to have a cool shower or bath you can. Plus, this is the last time for a very long time that you will have an "adult" christmas - ie with the focus on you as a couple rather than it being all about the kids. I don't think it matters what you do, just have a lovely "couple time" on the day and enjoy it.

I must admit I am actually forward to it now. We will go over to the in laws place in the morning to do pressies as they live so close. And then we will head home and they will go off to the family thing. I don't think I will put the Christmas tree up this year. I said to DH its just too hard bending down and putting it together and I don't want to hassle him as I have been keeping him busy with getting the house painting finished etc. Also the thought of having to put it down again so soon after CS birth I just don't think its practical. Do you think that makes sense?

Totally. It won't matter if you don't have a tree this year. And next year will be such a special Christmas for you with a nearly 1 yo. You'll no doubt go all out then!

We put our christmas tree up this year!! But only because we haven't been able to do it for the last 2 years as we have always been away at Chrissy time!
I'm loving having our tree up this year!

Like MantaRay said - enjoy this chrissy as it will be your last "adult" chrissy for ages.

well im due on christmas day and if it like my previous 3 pregnancies bub will take its time in arriving , so we wont be doing anything much. i doubt we will even be having a christmas lunch or dinner which really sucks as i look forward to it every year.i think dh wil probably just go by takeaway chicken and the kids can make some little goodies.

Just a suggestion - but if this is your first baby then this will be your last "quiet" christmas ever again. Maybe you could book into a really nice room in your home town and spoil yourselves with a lovely restaurant meal.

that way you are distracted from missing your family, enjoying some quiet time with hubby and still close to the hospital.

plus noone ever gets to experience the nice hotels in their own home town!
