My DS has heaps of toys already, but people are asking me what to get him for his first birthday. I'm looking for ideas of things to suggest to people that cost less than $30.
Character dinner set e.g elmo, toy story etc
Picture books
Rash shirt
Cancer council sun hat
Fun height chart he can put in his room, you can record growth.
how about some music cds like the wiggles songs or something like that. or perhaps a xylophone (sp?) or some bongo drums that he can roll and play with.
As his birthday is so close to Christmas, and you won't get another chance for pressies for a while, how about asking for some things that may be a bit too 'old' for him now, but would be good to get out in another 6m? More advanced toys/books, winter clothes, outside toys (sandplay, waterplay, balls, gardening), art supplies (stubby brushes, watercolours, paint pots, easel, crayons, textas, playdough accessories), pretend play (food, dinner set, cleaning things, kitchen ware, tools) toys that can be pushed around and/or ridden. If you get given those sort of things now, you'll be glad you don't have to buy them yourself when the time comes, and he's too young to know you didn't give him everything right away.
shape sorter toy
stacking cups/cubes
wooden blocks
a pull-along toy
a little plastic shopping trolley (most played-with toy in our house right now )
chunky round crayons/pens
sandpit or bath toys
jack in the box
BIG bouncy ball
The ABC Shop always has some great things for littlies. Hairy McLary or Slinky Malinky soft toys or books are great.
My mum says she's going to buy Jack a shaving kit for his first birthday due to him being a hairy little thing when he was born. He's not anymore and she's a little disappointed , but has decided to buy him a good one that he'll be able to keep and use when he's older.
