What a great idea! Im going to make some for DH too now
I have only ever heard of him having it at a friends house, so I didnt know it was a standard thing you could make. I look forward to the recipes people suggest.
Here's some recipes I found last year, but never got around to making. Please let me know if you try any, and if they work out well - hubby's looking forward to me making some this year
Nuts and Bolts Various Recipes
Makes
5 cups
Ingredients
• 2 1/2 cups Nutri-Grain cereal
• 2 1/2 cups unsalted mixed nuts
• 35g packet French onion soup mix
• 1 tablespoon lemon pepper
• 1/3 cup olive oil
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Line a large baking tray with baking paper.
2. Combine cereal, nuts, soup mix, lemon pepper and oil in a large bowl. Toss well to coat. Spread over prepared baking tray. Bake for 15 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, or until hot and crisp. Set aside to cool completely. Store in an airtight jar.
›› Combine oil, worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, paprika and cayenne pepper in a saucepan over low heat until warmed through.
›› Combine Nutri-Grain and nuts.
›› Spread evenly onto a large baking dish.
›› Pour oil mixture over the top and bake in a slow oven (125 C) for approximately one hour, turning every 15 minutes with an egg slice.
›› Allow to cool before serving.
›› Store in an airtight container.
Serves a small crowd.
Degree of difficulty: Low
Preparation Time: About 20 minutes all up once you have got the ingredients together.
Cooking Time: 15 minutes.
You need:
2 cups of Nutri Grain
2 cups of peanuts and/or mixed nuts
1 tablespoon of oil
1 tablespoon of curry powder
Method:
1. Mix the ingredients in a bowl
2. Lay the mixture flat on a baking tray
3. Cook in a moderate oven for 15 minutes
4. Let cool
Serving Suggestion: Cold, by themselves, in a party situation.
Leftover Potential: Keep well in an airtight container for days.
I've tried this recipe and it was an absolute hit!!! Nice and spicy as well!
250g roasted mixed nuts
3/4 cut nutrigrain
2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp brown sugar
1/4 tsp chill powder
1/2 tsp each of rock salt, and black pepper corn to taste
Light vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 160 degrees celcius. Place nuts and nutrigrain in large bowl and add curry powder, sugar, chilli powder, salt and pepper. Combine well.
Drizzle over about 3 tsp of oil or enough to lightly moisten. Mix until evenly coated.
Spread over baking tray and roast for 6-9 minutes or until golden and aromatic.
allow to cool.
