Oh the poor thing . I remember DS1 used to get terribly constipated as a baby and would scream in agony when he tried to poo, it was so distressing.
I never tried the prune juice so I have no idea how long it will take to work, hopefully very soon! I used to give DS1 Coloxyl drops that worked pretty well, but took about 24 hours to take affect.
Prune juice should take anywhere from 2-24hrs, depends on the concentration and how sensitive she is to it.
I hope she feels better soon...
I'll take half the constipation and give you half of MJ's runns (she has gastro) and hopefully they can pass normal poo's bewteen them
Thanks guys - she passed some liquid just before (poor DH - she got it on the thomas couch cover that he only just put back on it this morning from washing it from when DS did a wee on it!) so I would say that she is quite sensitive to prune juice - think it was about 10 minutes!! She still screamed in pain though, so I think its a little sensitive down there - poor little thing!!!
Trish - its horrible to hear them isn't it..
SJ - Yup I'll be in that - gastro would sound heavenly at the moment...
Sometimes if they go from having very hard poos to having liquid, they are still constipated. The hard poo is still stuck in their intestines & all that can pass through is the liquid (because it can go past the hard poo that is stuck). See how she goes - I guess I'd be looking for volume of poo to make sure that the hard bits have softened and passed through as well.
put some sudacrem round her back passage mel...it helps...sorry if iv offended. hope she feels better soon if that doesnt work go the chemist and ask for something for her...sorry not much help.
love rach xxx

: missed word
Thanks Rach - i've been applying moogoo cos I thought it might help with healing, or just the coolness or whatever. I don't actually use sudocream (cloth nappies ya see) but I think we may have a tester or something around here that I may have to try and dig up...
Thanks guys. She is sleeping now - so hopefully her bowels start working more with the prune juice - dunno how much to give her though - just gave her a little bit out of a sippy cup cos she wasn't touching her milk from the bottle.
Poor Jas was like that last night.....she was screaming and shaking it hurt so bad coming out...and it was like a huge boulder (sp) when it came out. My problem is she hates drinking anything but formula so i do leg exercises with her to help move things along.
If it comes to it, you can buy Coloxyl drops for kids that help!
Dunno holly - maybe? She's already on homeopathic drops for her silent reflux so I don't really want to give her any other drops which are mainly for wind issues.
She is still sleeping so at least she doesn't appear to be overly unsettled.
