After two miscarriages, I had some tests done (very lucky to have a supportive doctor who understands my feelings), everything is normal except the prolactins levels are a bit high (500-600). My doctor doesn't think its the reason for miscarriages as I don't have problem ovoluting and always have very regular periods, but he referred me to a specialist anyway just to get a second opinion. As it's Xmas break now she probably can't see me until Feb and there's always a bit of waiting time. Just wonderring whether anybody knows anything about prolactin levels and whether they'll cause miscarriages?
Just like to thank Polly for your valuable response. If anybody knows more, please let me know. Your answers will be much appreciated!
Hi TY
Your prolactin levels are a little high but only just. There are many things that can cause a slight increase such as yours. The things that can increase your prolactin levels include:- DTD, nipple stimulation, fear of having a blood test and PCOS to name just a few. I would very much doubt that your level of prolactin would cause a miscarriage.
Thank you so much for your reply Alan! It makes me feel a lot better now.
I think you are right, I did feel anxious before I did the test. I might just do another test next week see how it goes, if it's still high, I'll go and see the specilist. But do you think I can try again while I am waiting to see her?
I am in the same situation i have been ttc since may 2008 and with no luck decided to see gp in november, was sent for blood tests and was told i have high prolactins levels. i was refered to an entercronoligst but not till feb. i myself dont know much about this only what i have red up on the web. fingers crossed its nothing too serious
I don't have problem falling pregnant but I do have problem keeping it to term. I was also referred to an entercronoligst but I really wanted to see a GY so my GP then referred me to a very good GY/OB in brisbane.
I am seeing him this afternoon so if you have any questions, I can probably ask him for you.
The consultation was good, now I know that I don't have major problems, high prolactin levels would only cause infertility issues (ie. no period, no oluvation), I don't have that problem. My period's always regular. The elevated prolactin levels might be due to the recent miscarriage. Anyway, it's really good to get reassurance from the specilist.
Do you have regular periods? How high were your prolactin levels?
Im the same regular periods, im not sure what my levels are the doc told me and i cant remember i was thinking of calling her to ask but i think now id prefer not to know incase i start to read up on it depending how high or low it is and i dont like what im reading. prob not knowing much is a good thing for now.
