    Advice for a newbie

    Hi all

I was thinking of starting Maya on the cloth Baby beehinds I bought and was wondering how often do you change the cloth nappies? At the moment I change her ever time I feed her (she is Formula feed). Also do I need to put a throwaway liner in the nappy to stop the poo staining the nappies?

I am currently using disposables as Maya was 5 weeks premmie and is only now getting big enough to wear the cloth. I have only 3 bamboo fitted nappies + 3 pul and 3 wool covers to start (i realise I will need a heap more lol)

    Hiya Mel,

My Jack is coming up to 12 weeks (this sunday) and is in cloth full time..he is also formula fed and i only change him after he wakes feed him let him have a play then down for a sleep... he is changed roughly every 3 1/2-4 hrs
I don't use throw away liners..no need My nappies see ALOT of sun (except for the shiatty days when its raining) and the sun bleaches/fades any stains away.... I have used micro-fleece liners for when i am using bum cream.....just so the curash cream doesn't ruin my precious nappies...
    Hope this helps...

Yeah we change DD every 3-4 hours, unless she does a poo in the middle of it

We change her after every feed - and in the middle of her dream feed at night.

DS is in cloth full-time and we change him every 2-3 hours, depending on how wet he is. The BBH bamboo last longer than our pocket nappies (greenkids). The liners are helpful if your bub has relatively solid poo, because you can just pick up the liner & the nappy is clean'ish (don't have to rinse the poo off before you put it in the bucket). If your bubs does really runny poos, they will seep through the liner anyway, so there is no point. I didn't start lining DS's nappies until he was on solids.

Thanks for your replies. I think when DH goes back to work on Monday i will starting using them during the day and see how I go - I did put one of her the other day and they seemed really big and bulky though...I guess I am used to the small size of her newborn huggies

Mel - we use BBH. ANd they are great.

I will change them every 2-3 hours on DS because he seems to soak them well - with both the long and short booster. I can often touch the outside and they are wet).

I used microfleece liners i bought from spotlight and cut up myelf - have about 50 liners for $5.
They are extgremely easy to little squirt the poo off the fleece compared to the bamboo, if some gets onthe BBB then they will sun out the stains. Bamboo is a wonderful natural fibre.

Also the liner helps keep bubs bottom dry from the wee.

I would say you have plenty of covers! I only have 3 pul and 1 wool cover for DS and 2 x woolies for night times.

I dont fold my BBB over into newborn as i find it too bulky but the PUL cover will contain anyloss.

Also i find that medium covers are better fit than the smalls over the BBB (i have always upsized).
