    Qld X-ray

I wasn't sure where to post this. I am thinking of going to QLD XRAY for my ultrasound. Can you tell me how much they charge and if you get anything back on medicare? (also anything if you are on a single Mum pension?).

Cathy are you able to get a referral to a bulk billing clinic or is this for a 3/4D ultrasound?

I do have a referral to a bulk billing clinic at Browns Plains..but I have heard some bad reports about it. My appt is at almost 20 weeks (9th Jan) and I worry that I won't get my ultrasound sheet back in time before the midwife/hospital appt. As friday appts, they make you wait until monday afternoon to get the film back.

Oh ok, try another clinic? Sorry I can't offer any assitance I am from Victoria, however I had mine done at non bulk billing clinic - medicare covered half and a HCC would have covered the rest. I'd say just call and ask what they can do for you, being on a pension it should be free? I suppose it depends on how 'high-end' the clinic is.

They do charge everyone. The only time I got a free one was before 12 weeks with my last daughter. I don't even know if they do that anymore. I think it is about nearly $300. I guess medicare would cover half that.

I might ring around and see. Thanks!

Cathy I wouls give them a call, they will tell you the cost and the rebate waht you get back. If you have reached the medicare safety net you'll get more back. For this information you'll have to call medicare.

My last 20wk scan was around $220 and I got $80 back. Also if you have an apt at Logan hosiptal booked and you are afraid you won't get your scan before your apt then you and rescedule with the hospital as well. I have always found the hospital really good if I needed to rescedule.

BTW I highly recommend going to the Sunnybank Womens Diagnostic clinic. It is a Q Ray clinic but it specialises in pregnancy.

Unfortunately they charge for all scans now

$220 isn't too bad. I will give them a call and ask. My friend did go to Sunnybank for both her scans (the 3D ones I think?) and both times they couldn't tell her the sex of the baby. I thought that a little strange.

I am going to the Logan Hospital, but haven't had an actual date yet...I figure it will be very soon though as you are Supposed? to see them at 20 weeks? Well you are right, I can always reschedule.

    Thanks Bekz!

Well I managed to get into the Mater Women's Diagnostic centre on jan 9 and I'm having a 3d/4d scan, and I'm thrilled as I've never had one before!! It only costs $200 and I get $85 back she said. Happy about that.

All the best Cathy..Do you know approximately how many weeks you are? I am 12wks and I haven't got a referal for the Logan hosptial yet. I have a 13wk scan on Tuesday and I am assuming my doc will give me a referal then.

    Hey Bekz

I am 19 weeks tomorrow! I will be almost 20 weeks at the scan NEXT WEEK! Woohooo one week to go.

My dr sent off the referral at 12 weeks if I recall. I have had literature from the Logan Hospital (only about 3 weeks ago), but no actual appt yet. They say you have to see the midwife clinic first and then you have an appt with the hospital (you can't go to hospital appt unless you go to see the midwives appt first, it's compulsorary), so I guess it will be awhile til I see the hospital.

Perhaps give the hospital a call? They can probably tell you when you can expect your appointment to the hospital. I ended up doing shared care with my GP & the Logan, but didn't see my obgyn at the hospital until I was about 28 weeks pregnant as my referral to the Mater got lost TWICE. I kept following them up and my GP finally just went to the Logan and explained the situation. I wouldn't change my experience with them - they were fantastic.

I think my OBgyn at Logan was Dr Hassan? She was wonderful

Sounds like a good idea. I will ring them next week and find out what is happening.

The previous 3 pregnancies I had at Logan I always saw the hospital at 12 weeks. But things have changed now.

Like you, I have nothing but good words to say about Logan. They are only a 10 min drive for me too, which is handy.

I remember Dr Hassan...she was lovely!

Same here Cathy, I'm only a 10 min drive away (my 'location' is misleading, I just moved back to Logan from Sydney) Did you have Jacinta as a midwife for any of your births!? She was a godsend.

Beckibee...so you're a logan bogan now hey? hehe I've been here 13 years, no complaints. I see you had your daughter on christmas eve..that's sweet! My son was born dec 29, and I loved seeing all the chrissy decorations up when I stayed in the ward. (I had the exact same bed with both Yasmin and Ronan too!)

I had a c-section last time and don't remember the midwives names. But I had the best midwife with my son's birth. She was in her 50s? Marion? I think was her name. I delivered with just her in the room (no dr..though he put the drip in beforehand and stitched me up later lol).

Jas, I went to Beenleigh with Laura's pregnancy. They were good. I just feel like getting the 3d scan this time as this baby is my last. And I have photos or video for all the others. The free places never give you a photo.

Does anyone know if they still let you get video (dvd) of the ultrasound in Qld? I think they are too worried about legalities these days. The only video of the u/sound i have is of Yasmin's pregnancy (1996).

Beckibee - Jacinta was middy for my last DD. She was good, let me do most of it myself and didn't interfer too much.

I think they are free up to 12wk. And they are ok with you bringing a dvd in for it to be reocorded? That's pretty cool. Which Qxray was it?
