What a beautiful breed to have as a member of the family.

Here are a couple of basics for a new dog.

    1. He (or she)needs his own bed.
    2. A food and water bowl. Ceramic bowls are great for keeping water cooler in the warm months. Not essential though.
    3. Some toys that are special and fun to play with. Probably about 3 different ones to start with and ones that are suitable for a puppy to play with.
    4. A collar for a young dog. One that isn't too heavy and doesn't have studs or gadgets attached is best and not a choke chain collar either. And if you like you can purhase his own leash too.
    5. A harness for travelling in the car. It's actually against the law (in NSW anyway) to travel in a vehicle with an unrestrained dog.

With regards to food it's always good to ask the breeder/pet store what they are currently being fed. Try to stick with that even though you may consider it to be a poor diet and then slowly incorporate what you plan to feed him with the current meals until you slowly make a 100% switch to the food you would like him to be eating. That's stops little pups from getting upset tummies.

As far as I remember desexing normally happens around 6 months of age.

Hope this is helpful. Have fun with your pup!

We let our new puppy sleep in a box next to our bed for the first few nights until she got used to being away from her mum (although she was only 10 weeks)We also had a wheat pillow for her to sleep with which was warm and soft. When she woke during the night DH just gave her a pat and she settled really quickly rather than crying for ages. She was an outside dog when she got older.

i hope you didn't go and buy just any dry food you should have asked the breeder what dry food the pup is eating..because if you just changed over straight away..more than likely pup will end up with an upset tummy... gradually change his dry food over if you want to change brands. A raw meat diet is best for your pup.
de-sexing can be done before 6months of age, and IMO i would get it done before 6 mths if it is a male!! you don't want him ****ing his leg on all your furnature etc... speak to your vet in regards to what age they will de-sex, some will do it prior to 6mth some wont.
    have fun!!!

Congrats on the new addition to your family! Has he got a name yet?

We did the same as Mrs Mac when we got our puppies. whatever you do, do not give into temptation to lift them up on the bed with you for a cuddle- very bad habit that they pick up very easily if you do this. Just pat him and try to fall back asleep. I also put one of my fluffy slippers in with my dogs when they first were puppies as it had my smell on it and was cuddly (however one of my dogs developed a fetish for my shoes and enjoyed destroying them for quite awhile)!!

Dont know what flooring you have as well (we had floor boards) and we had newspaper everywhere!!!! Then we slowly started making the newspaper areas smaller and smaller and then after a couple of weeks, our dogs were going to the toilet outside.

With desexing- it is normally around 6mths old that they get the chop.

One thing I would recommend doing is taking your dog to the vets within the next 2 weeks for a vet check to make sure the pup is okay adn to ask any more questions about your pup.
