    Question Lazy vs chilled out

    Just wondering something..

When I picked Miss M up from her daycare this afternoon (2nd last day - woohoo!!) the director there said that they had been trying to make her sit up all day, because she's LAZY and can't do it.

So it got me thinking.. is she lazy? Or just chilled out? I mean, she hardly cries.. doesn't roll yet (not that we have seen).. she turns 360 degree turns on her back though and puts her legs up like she is going to roll over, but doesn't... if you put her down somewhere she's happy just to lay there if you give her a toy - and even if you don't!! She played with the handle of my bag the other day for about half an hour...

We sit her in the bumbo all the time, and she's only JUST started to hold herself towards the back of it so she doesn't fall forward... in 11 days she'll be 6 months old...

So is she lazy? or just chilled out?

I don't know why anyone who cares about a child would call them "lazy"???!!! That's terrible!!

Forget what they think. You're her mum. Do you think she needs more encouragement to do more physical stuff??

Both of my kids weren't crawling at 6 months. They both started at about 7 months, and were walking not long after. Some kids are content and chilled-out, and then once they do manage to get moving they realise "oh wow, check this out!!" and they are off! I say enjoy this time while she's fairly immobile

    Thanks guys.

I mean, DS WAS more noticeably active than she is but still, he didn't sit up on his own until he was 7 months, crawled at 9 and walked at 15 months... so maybe she's following his lead? We thought he was going to crawl early because he was up on his hands and knees from 5 months - but still took him all that time to get going, whereas - she's not anywhere NEAR that... at all... she just.. lays there... so thats the only reason why I would be concerned, cos of the comparison of her brother...

I think that is so stupid calling her lazy- seriously how can a baby be lazy!!! Anyway Mackenzie was/is exactly like your DD -0 chilled and happy to lay about and in no rush to go anywhere! She sat at 6 1/2 months, crawled at nearly 13 months and is only just standing now. It's not because she's physically unable - she just isn't in any great rush to get anywhere!

I would be LIVID if someone did that to my child. Sorry but thats almost abusive. Its like dr's who try and make children crawl by maneuvering their legs roughly to get them "used to it". Every child develops differently and it doesn't mean there is a developmental issue. I once read about a competitive swimmer who said that as a baby she commando crawled yet people say that its a developmental issue, and infers that the child won't have very good co-ordination in later life... well that sure debunked that theory hey? I would make a complaint. Maybe if they spent more time interacting with her she might feel like actually moving around.

Totally chilled out . We all know that our gorgeous little one's do what they what when they want and we can't make them do anything until they are ready and want to. Your gorgeous little girl is perfect and isn't it great that she is so chilled out that she can entertain herself. DD was exactly the same and now there is no stopping her.

Mel, we are 6.5 months here, and only roll from our belly to back and don't sit well at all. My reason for the sitting is we ripped up all our carpet and I wasn't keen on DS learning to sit and fall over on hard floorboards! But we got a rug and are starting to practice it. anyhoo, back on topic, Miss M is able to amuse herself, and like you said, is doing the swivel movements on her back, and lifting her legs up... she sounds pretty chilled out instead of racing through to check off her list of things to do at a rate suitable to her daycare director. Maybe she is in deep thought about how to approach it all and do it properly first go

Mel honey, I'd be pretty darned concerned that they had spent 'all day' trying to get her to sit. I'm sure they meant that figuratively, but even so, if she's not ready, she's not ready.

From everything that you've ever said about the Divine Miss M, she's one chilled out baby. Laziness is an adjective for adults, it doesn't apply to a small baby. When she decides that there's something to be gained by sitting up, that's when she'll devote her energy to it. Until then, she's devoting it to things that are much more important to her.

Hmmm.. thats a bit rough. There are a lot of babies that can't sit on their own at 6 months... including my two! I can't remember their exact ages, but both not until around 7 months or later?
I don't think its fair of them to be calling your DD lazy, in fact, its really not on!
She will reach her milestones in her own time, don't stress, she is definitely just chillin!

Mel, my ds was eight months before he could sit up. I would be really really cranky about that. TBH, telling you your six month old is 'lazy' is just bleepin' rude and shows a distinct lack of understanding in child developement.

    Thanks for your support guys.

I'm used to them (the childcare) being like this - or peeving me off - so everything just rolls off my back now - one more day, one more day - ONE MORE DAY!!!

    WOOOHHhOOOOOOooOOOOOO

And its very good to know that its "ok" to have a chilled out one. I certainly need a chilled out one with DS being the way he is

:yeahthat: Well if Miss M is lazy i'd dread to think of what they'd say about my DD. She didnt roll til 7months, sat at about 8-9months crawled at 11.5months couldnt pull herself up until 13months and now at 14 months still isnt walking. YES we have found out she has problems with her ligaments (only found out in the last few wks) in her legs but still I would be IRATE if someone spoke about my child like that even b4 her diagnosis. Maybe you need to print a copy of this thread and hand it over to her and her co-ordinator.
