    More Food Questions... Sorry

Lately I've been craving pasta salad I used to make... Cook up capsicum, shallots, bacon, boiled eggs, celery sometimes corn kernals mix it in with cooked pasta and mayo - then eat it cold. This is still bad if I make it at home?

What about home made potato salad?

What about cheese slices and cheese sticks? I saw cheese sticks when I was shopping the other day and thought aaah wow I want some, but refrained unsure about them.

I feel so nieve with these things!!

    Thanks in advance

What I was told during anitnatel classes was its fine to eat things you have preared at home, but shouldn't be eaten after 24 hrs (even when stored correctly in the fridge). This is due to the bacteria that grows and normally wouldn't be of any harm to us, but can be dangerous to bubby.

As for cheese, they say you should steer clear of soft cheese. So your regular chedder and tastey cheeses, etc are fine. Once again this is due to the bacteria content.

Its a little confusing to start with in regards to all things you shouldn't be eating during pregnancy!

Teh pasta salad sounds fine as long as there is no whole-egg mayo in there. But I would suggest eating the bacon hot rather than cooled

cheese slices and cheese sticks are fine. I eat soft cheese as well, as long as pasturised. Get the mayo with no egg in it! xo

Just thought I would add that cream cheese and cottage cheese are fine, even though they are 'soft' they are not classed as soft cheeses in the strict sense. Also most mayos that you buy at the supermarket are fine, as they have been pasturised. If you want to be cautious, avoid 'whole egg' mayo and freshly made mayo.

If you make the salad at home it is fine, as you know exactly what is in it and how it has been prepared and stored. Anything home made is fine to eat, as long as one of the ingredients isn't a 'no no' food like soft cheese or raw egg!

The thing with soft cheese is pasteurization and muold. I found pasteurized brie when I was pregnant and nearly fainted until I realized that half the problem was mould >.< (the white coating around soft cheese is mould).
