    Milk - too much?

My 3 year old DD tries to only drink milk.

This is after I weaned her off cordial & juice. I don't buy cordial at all anymore & buy bottled water, coz they find water more exciting & actually drink it that way. Juice they are allowed once or twice a day.

But DD2 only wants milk. As soon as she finishes a drink she'll ask for more. She still eats plenty & is a pretty good eater, but she has milk at least every hour or 2.
She won't go to sleep with out a pop top, or cup with lid with milk in it.
I try not to give her much. 100 - 150 mls usually at a time, but I'm worried she's having waaay too much.

She might have one or 2 drinks of water a day. Usually its a full small bottle, around 300mls. Sometimes will have it out of the tap with a straw.

Is that too much milk? Would you be worried? Do you think its ok??

Milk is good for them and I th9ink if she eating well and sleeping well and isn't overly big for her age then its ok...

I personally just say no drink a glass of water first then you have Milk.juice. cordial..

then I give half a glass. My kids are ona cordial ban after they started making thier own and well lets say half a cup of coridial topped up with 1/4 glass of water is not on.. so yeh its out now lol

If you're worried it's too much, maybe trying watering it down a bit?

Hey Skye, I know what your dealing with. I worry too that my kids have too much. I sometimes water it down, and I only give it now 3 times a day, morning, before day sleep and before bed. I guess though as long as they aren't filling up on it and not eating anything else they should be fine. They love their water as well though, so I guess I'm not worried about that. Hopefully it will just mean they will have lovely strong bones

Well thats what I'm hoping. I tell myself it should be good for her bones & teeth, but just wanted to know if it was possible to have too much of a good thing iykwim.
We stopped buying cordial about 6 or more months ago because Bri's 2 front teeth were reshaping themselves to the shape of the pop top.
So I avoid pop tops when I can now too. I try to have cups or what ever with a flat mouth peice instead of round.

I know what you mean Skye, I still worry too . Sounds as though you know what's best for your kids though, so I would just keep on going with your gut feeling.

BTW, have you tried the Take n Toss cups with the plastic lids. They are great, it's all my DD drinks her milk out of now, she loves them, especially the princess ones. My DS loves the Thomas ones 2, but unfortunately hasn't fully mastered drinking from the yet and ends up wearing more than he drinks.

hi just thought i'd add my piece, kids can never have too much milk, for girls once they hit 21-25, ur bones stop hardening, so if they havent had enough calcium b4 they reach that age is when they run risk of brittle bones or osteoperosis later on in lfe.
My DD is the same she loves the stuff! im yet to stop her taking a bottle of milk to bed and am also worried about her teeth, i make her brush first thing in the morning and at night, i'll make sure i avoid the pop tops!

    Thanks guys.

Meluchja - yeah, I need to get more of them. They are good.
DS likes the straw ones atm. DD usually does have one of the lid ones. She won't drink with out a lid.

my dd1 grace is almost 5, she has 3 milks a day of about 200mls each, she would ask for more too she loves them and her water and eats well, she is a skinny little thing and her teeth are beautiful (or so her dentist says) the milk issue peaked at about 2.5yrs of age where she was waking for them every two hours...... Most of us can not even begin to imagine what some little kids survive on, from nothing at all in 3rd world countries to never eating a veggie or fruit.....i say milks the least of our troubles....

also i have always found with kids that the moment you begin to go insane with worry about a stage they are at they go and change all by themselves.... be cool man, it wont last forever

If you are concerned about the full cream milk then switch to the skim milk. Same amount of calcium just less fat. My kids dietician says after 2 they should be on skim milk anyway. I wouldn't worry too much though as it is beneficial to them and they are not having any of the sugar drinks.

Also I will no be buying pop tops any more. Didn't realise that they can cause tooth deformities 8 s

Well she's doing a bit better now
More juice & water than usual. Wich means she's doen to 2 - 3 milk drinks a day, instead of non stop.
I was never worried about the fat content as none of us are even close to having any weight problems, the kids are quite thin, so thats all ok.
