Talking Sorry , 13mth DD pressed enter!!! lol

Sorry, didn't get to finish typing...

Do you have a recipe for home made playdough. I think my 13mth old would enjoy squishing it around in her hands.... she is still a bit young for the crayons although I have tried...

does it need to be stored in the frige? does the food colouring come out all over the kids?

    Thanks...

Play dough - the easiest way ever…
    Use your normal recipe:
    1 cup Flour
2 teaspoons of Cream of Tartar
    1/2 cup of Salt
    1 tablespoon Oil
    Food colouring
    1 cup of BOILING water.

Put all dry ingredients in a bowl. Add food colouring and oil to boiling water. Then simply mix together, it may not form a big ball to start with but just keep bringing it together as it cools. Make sure it is cooled completely before your children start playing.

It takes all the hard stirring out of making play dough, as you do not require a stove to make it, and saves time and energy.

My DD's nanny used to make this for her (in various different shades of food colouring) and I found that if I stored it in one of those gladware containers (the disposable ones, altho you can re-use them, clear bottoms, blue lids) it keeps for ages. (She made it exactly the way saslia has said).

Yep, definitely keep it in a sealed container in the fridge for it to last longer and if you don't put too much food dye in it, it shouldn't come out onto your hands when you're playing with it.

    Thanks ladies,

OOooo MrsT, thankfully we have floorboards in the living areas. I will make sure it doesnt venture into the bedrooms Lesson learned hey? lol

I made BRIGHT BLUE and the colour didnt seem to come out on the kitchen counter when I was kneading it (had a bit of a play myself hehe). I did need to add a few handfulls of extra flour to get the right feel. I guess it is totally safe to eat but she wont want to with all that salt! (mind you, today she was eating gravel!!!!! so who knows? )

will it start to go a bit funky or smelly eventually or just dry out? I guess it depends how much it gets used.

    Sazz.

My mum used to keep some in a freezer bag in the fridge for the girls. It lasted months. It'll only go dry if left out

I can't wait to make Playdough for DS..though it may be a while off yet, he is right into taste testing everything ATM lol.
DD was asking me about making playdough this morning, so will print this off and put aside so we can make some for DS later on in the year maybe?

i would advise to wash hands after and moisturize them with my dd the salt would dry her hands out so much her finger tips would crack open and bleed. She is now 11 and we still have playdoh issues.

Just made this one - 3 batches in green, red and blue - the blue has worked the best and I used 1 TEAspoon of oil instead of 1 tablespoon and the texture is gorgeous and my hands aren't greasy
