Having the flu around O time

    Hello,

If you are sick (mild flu, not serious) around O time, does anyone know if it can have an effect on Ovulation or conceiving? Thanks.

I wouldn't think so. But I am no expert on the subject either.

I found this, hope it helps:

Any illness can potentially alter your menstrual cycle, though it may not mean you have not ovulated. It may simply be that you did not get your usual physical signs of ovulation.

If your last period was light or unusual, it is also possible that you are already pregnant and therefore would not have signs of ovulation (you may want to do a home pregnancy test if this is the case).

Hi Berry, any illness or stress can have an effect on when and if you ovulate. Sometimes illness or stress will either postpone ovulation, or prevent it all together in a cycle. I hope this is not the case for you and that you ovulate on time.

The only effect I've heard about it having on actual conception is still under debate. Some say it might be possible that the increase in white blood cells in your body while they are trying to fight off the illness may try to also attack your partners sperm. Sort of like them being on "heightened alert" and attacking anything they don't recognise. But again, it's still under debate and needs to be studied more, so don't let that stress you even further.

Are you temping and charting? You might find that your chart is a bit all over the place and doesn't give you a clear pattern this cycle if you had a bit of a fever. Hopefully all your other symptoms are able to tell you what your body is doing.

In any case, best of luck this cycle!

Yeah you usually have to be reasonably ill to affect when you ovulate and even then it will probably just delay it for a few days rather than cause you to skip altogether.

But you might find if you're temping that it's a bit all over since the the flu usually comes with a fever. Just rely on watching your CM if you have a temp.

Thanks for your responses. I am temping and yes they have been a bit higher then usual. I have had O symptoms, so suspect it may have just happened, will have to wait and see. Hope those white blood cells stay away from the swimmers, I want a baby this month . Thanks again.
