yeh the ones I have seen online look great.. I found a 4 bed 2 storey one for just over 100K and seeing as we already have the land (house is on it at the moment) I am curious how it all works
I looked at some before realising I would really appreciate all the things a building company would do for me like organise power, plumbing, phone trenching, driveway, permits, soil testing, fencing...I imagine it would add up, the best thing to do would be to call a kit home company and find out what's included and what is extra - then do the same with a building company.
Hi, my cousin bought a kit home and saved lots of $$$ on the house but then ran into all sorts of problems later on. The house he ordered was built in 2 sections and then delivered on the back of a truck which was fine until they went to put the 2 sections together and found that they didn't match up properly. It was a real hassle trying to get the pieces to join together. Gary then had to pay to have the water, electricity, gas etc connected to the house and because the house was new had to hire his own private contractors to do this and then also pay the companies all the new connection costs which come with the electricity, gas, phone etc companies having to come out to the property to install the meters once the electrician, plumber etc had finished. Also the kit home didn't come with furnishings so he also had the costs of putting in carpets, tiles and had to paint the house himself. It was quite a bit of work and much more expensive than the kit home companies advertise because they don't have to do all the extra stuff so it sounds cheaper than it really is.
Yeah I knew you had to put in all the extra's, but I figured if you went second hand it'd work out ok.
Don't you have to pay for power, water, phone etc either way?
My FIL was a buider, dad & DH have alot of experience with renovations & plumbing & all that stuff, & DH is a roofer.
So we were kind of hoping for us it'd work out ok.
