Ok well i've always suffered terribly with period pain sometimes only finding relief with someone sitting on me... that or taking some sleeping pills which i hate doing. Its gotten worse over the yrs not sure if its got anything to do with the PCO?? who knows. Its gotten alot worse since having DD.
So what do you do for period pain relief... I need suggestions... Keep in mind i have tried most things.
The 'natural' creams to rub into the tum did nothing.
Heat packs do help a bit but are a bit unpractical if you are walking aroundthe shops or work!!! A hot shower helps too but I always felt too guilty to stay in one. Also in winter I would lie in bed on my tum wth the electric blanket on.
I used nuraphen plus as the special period pain meds didnt touch the sides.
Apparently excercise is meant to help, not that you feel like doing any then.
I hope someone else has something better I can use too!
I an also at a loss for a good pain relief. For some reason mine usually ends up happening during the night so makes me a mess for work the next day. I often end up with slight burns on my belly from having such hot heat packs on there!
Awwww thats no good Jess - period pain can be bad - im lucky ive never had it really bad tho! all i can suggest is Naprogesic - tho u have prob tried that, a hot water bottle and a sweet cuppa tea!!!!
I also get very bad period pain. At one point it was so bad I thought I was dieing. I was curled up in a ball, in tears, for about 6 hours. I seriously considered calling an ambulance, so believe me I feel your pain.
I've found Ibuprofen helps sometimes, as well as sitting in a hot shower for a while and just relaxing, (I know, water restrictions, but seriously it gets to the point where ya just think "fk it")
I used to take Ponstan but it stopped working after a while, either the pains got worse or my body got used to it.
Aside from that I have no idea. Heat packs and the like have never really helped me much so I'll be watching this thread with great interest.
I'm currently pregnant atm, is the pain likely to be worse after baby is born?
I found that nothing worked for me except naprogesic. (neurofen, panadol etc didn't make any difference at all.)
I used to take one of those little blue pills and thank my lucky stars every time that something worked. This was especially after the time I got stuck overseas without a supply and couldn't get any without a prescription. It was pure hell and I relate completely to Heva5, thought I might die!
I have heard that cutting down on caffeine can make a difference as can drinking raspberry tea. You need to drink it regularly throughout the month rather than just when you get your period and you may even need to drink it for a few months for it to really have an effect. Raspberry tea helps the uterus and is recommended for preparation for labour too.
I am sure that diet and lifestyle can have a major contributing factor so perhaps if you are at the end of your tether (and of course you haven't been down this road yet) it may be worth seeking the advice of an alternative therapist. A Natropath or Traditional Chinese Doctor may be able to help you.
If you are in Melb you could check out the therapists at the Belly Belly Center.... I found Nicole to be absolutely fantastic when I visited her . At least at that center you know they have been handpicked and specialise in women. Maybe you could contact them via this forum?
