Getting kids up in the morning...

... what do you do to get your kids out of bed when they are being difficult? I've been having alot of trouble getting the kids to bed earlier than they go now, have tried walking before bed, they do the usual bath and quiet time but as soon as its bed time its like a light switches on with energy. So getting up in the morning becomes hell. Its become really stressful because it makes us all run late and of course I end up grumpy for the morning. Any suggestions? I currently turn on the lights and noise, i.e. t.v. and of course tell them to get up, but they will sometimes just take themselves back to bed or refuse to get up or be grumpy....

I do the lights and noise thing. But if it's not working I usually get the dog all excited and make her jump on them to get them up LMAO! That works a treat.

In my house it's not so much the getting out of bed, getting them motivated to do anything is my issue.....the dog can't help me there

I'm shocking in the morning. DP has to bribe me with tea and a hot cross bun to get me up.

Would the smell of food (even if it's just toast) motivate them? Or maybe take them a drink in and leave it somewhere they have to get out of bed for?

    try bribery!
reward system that if you leave on time, they get a sticker- so many stickers mean a reward!
otherwise i find that if i start nagging earlier, then we tend to leave on time. Also no TV in the morning as well - when the TV is on guaranteed to be late!

If you usually start waking them at 7.00- try start waking them at 6.30!once they start getting up earlier than normal, then they will start hopefully going to bed easier at nite!

    good luck- mornings suck!!!

I just start dressing them and if they are still sleepy I put them in the car asleep and take breakfast to daycare

My mum was always out of bed ages before us kids got up, and would have already done the washing and hung the clothes on the line, before coming to wake us up. Coz I loved my bed soooo much, and really didn't want to get out of it, especially in the middle of winter, she would come in straight from hanging the clothes on the line, come upstairs, pull back the doona, pull up my pyjama shirt, and stick her freezing cold hands on my stomach. Of course that had me wide awake in a nanosecond, and jumping out of the other side of the bed, but at least I was up!

Not so helpful at this time of year, but maybe just hold an ice-pack or a bag of peas for a little while before you go and wake them up?

I reckon you should try it at least once - with your DH ready with the video camera! Then send it to Funniest Home Videos...

    Good luck!

I sit on DD's bed and gently try and wake her by rubbing her back and talking to her. Then I say I'm going to have a shower and she needs to be dressed when I get out. If that doesnt work then I find yelling and screamimg and slamming doors etc works a treat! I must say though, my kids a great at getting up and usually have to come and wake me up cause Im tired and stayed up too late on BB
