Ubba, I haven't heard that one specifically but all I would be able to think of would be if it was fresh and not washed and therefore a listeria risk??
I read somewhere that eating bean sprouts (cooked or raw) is a no no in pregnancy. Is this correct? If yes, Why?

Do u mean the ones in the bag, i have always eaten them, i make my own spring rolls, and vietnamise rolls, and i eat the bean sprouts all the time, havent had a problem yet.
I would think it has to so with them being washed properly before eating. Like the pre made salads and stuff. I've had a few festy smelling batches of them in the past too.
Hi Ubba
Not sure if you got my response to this / your question in another thread. If not, you can find it here.

Hi Ubba
I was shocked to find out bean sprouts are a no-no too. It's in both my pregnancy books and it's because they're high risk of listeria. They say even cooked (or heated through) is a no-no too. Best to steer clear if you ask me.
HTH hon!
Sambo- Your post was the one I was thinking about!!!! I didnt subscribe to that thread so I never got your answer. Thank You so much![]()
It's a pleasure, Ubba![]()
Hi,
my ob said an absolutely NO to them! it's a pity because I love Asian food and I always have to ask to cook without them...
funny though, with my DD I ate almost everything (except soft cheese) and spent 10 weeks travelling (including Dubai and Thailand) and ate everything... she is a healthy toddler. With this pg I am obsessed, maybe because my OB is very strict!
I never know what to eat when we go to shopping centres and it's too late to go home to cook... I end up with fries... and I feel a baloon!!!
cheers
I just had fried rice for dinner, and ate the bean sprouts, i was trying to avoid them, but they just kept popping up, all i could think about was this thread.
So i pretty much ate them all!![]()
I'd say it's just another one of those 'possible risk' foods but I'd steer clear of them going forward. They do list them as high risk in pregnancy books and on many websites as well. Have a look a this document as an example - see the 'Safe eating during pregnancy' table on page 6 http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/...y-brochure.pdf
wow thanks Taurean, cant believe half the stuff on that list, probably even more than half i have eaten in all 5 of my other pregnancys, but i may just take more notice now![]()
