What kind of pot is it? Just stainless? Or a teflon one?
I usually soak it and scrape off as much as I can. If it is stainless I have a go at it with a tought steel wool (not the ones which dissintergrate the hard ones).
If it is teflon I use those non scratch scrubbers.
You could try Bi carb and vinegar too.
HTH, I hate when stuff like this happen

Stainless ... give it a long soak with boiling water..
then go the bi-carb. Mix it in with a lil water, it makes a paste. Smear that, leave it sit and use a steel wool to scrub it off.

Depending on how bad it is.. u may need to do this several times.

I would put in bicarb and hot water and put it back on the stove for a good boil to release the baked on burnt stuff. Then it will just be the elbow grease with pot scrubber.

Strangely a scoop of laundry washing detergent in the pot with some warm water left over night works. This also works on oven racks you can soak them in the sink with the soap powder and they'll be clean by morning. No scrubbing required

Bi-carb soda and add some vinegar and watch it peel off of the pan...

It has never ever failed me!!

is this true?? I will love you forever if it is! LOL. I've got a tupperware party on Saturday and we're using the oven and I forgot that they desperately need cleaning. Am going to do the steam & enjo thing for the oven & oven door, but the racks need a helping hand heheh.

Now I've just gotta find a sink big enough... the laundry one might be.. otherwise the bath I guess. altho, probably not really a safe thing with kidlets.. can't shut our bathroom either.. it's all sliding doors that don't lock lol.

This is from Shannon Lush, author of Spotless etc:

    Burnt Pan
Sprinkle bicarb into the pan then sprinkle with vinegar. While it's fizzing, scrub with a nylon brush. You may need to repeat this two or three times for bad burns. For bad burns, cover in vinegar and place the pan in the freezer. Then add bicarb and scrub with a nylon brush

I do the Shannon lush method and my stainless steel pots come up really well, or leave it upside in a frost if you are in a cold area - always worked in bowral

OK.. just have to say... I know not related to the original post... but OH MY GOODNESS... I have clean oven racks!! Soaked em for 3 1/2 hrs and they just wiped clean! (yes I was impatient) Admittedly they're not 100%, still just a few stubborn spots, but I have no doubt if left overnight there'd be no wiping to do!! I had to do a bit of a scrub with my enjo and the fiddly bits were harder to get into... but they are so so so so so much cleaner already. V excited! hehehe. Now to do the oven.

Ooh, must do that myself. My oven is disgusting! The last owners did not clean it before they moved out.

I'm still stunned how easy it was. If I had a spray bottle and a bit more time I'd spray soapy laundry water inside the oven and let it sit and wipe it out. But I just did the bottom of the oven & the door with a scourer & dishwashing liquid and then enjo'd it all off.. came up really good. the sides & top of the oven can wait.. they're not visible LOL.

Yep! I keep all the left over foil for this reason. Gets the black right off!
