Thanks girls. I will have to get DH to ring and have a chat with the jeweller.
I wear gold, but wear a ring on my right hand that is a gold band with silver on it as well... this will come off for the new ring (my eternity ring) to go on. Won't be wearing it on the same finger as another ring, so to avoid 2 different types being side by side. There will be no other rings on my right hand except this one..

Do your rings naturally shine? Or are they dull?
I do not get my jewellery polished, as my silver shines with me wearing it.

Yeah jewellers do clean em better!
I would just look after it at home, then when you go to jeweller get it cleaned.

I have a diamond solitaire platinum ring & I clean it with hot water with a dash of ammonia in & a tooth brush (recommended by my jeweller). Diamond comes up super shiny. The band itself is getting dull from wear & I need to get it back to the jewellers for a polish.

The other thing to remember is that Platinum is really soft but it doesn't scratch, it dents if that makes sense. So wheras other rings loose volume over time (think of great granny's rings - they are usually very thin) platinum doesnt. This just means that when you take it to a jeweller for polishing they need to know what they are doing. I would say take it back to the guy who made it - even if it is only every couple of years.

As for cleaning - warm water, dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush here too.

:yeahthat: That's how I do mine too (not platinum though, 18ct white gold). Our jeweller has made all of our rings and told us to clean them all this way. I then rinse them in hot water and dry them with a hairdryer. They come up super shiny and the diamonds are very sparkly

For what it's worth, he told us to only have it cleaned and polished once a year because over time it causes too much wear on the jewellery. I usually get mine done around our anniversary.
