Question Ear piercing for an adult ... Where to get it done ??

    Hi all,

I am interested in getting my ears re-pierced ... i last wore pierced earrings about 10years ago ... i think from memory i just didn't wear earrings for a few months then when i went to put my earrings in they wouldn't go through the hole ... so i just didn't bother again as years before on and off for years i would have problems with slight infection then they would be fine

Anyway, i would love to wear pierced earrings again and was wondering if it would be best to get them done at my GP if i want to re-pierce them ... Do GP's do ear piercing ??

It's just in the past i had them done by a chemist assistant at the pharmacy (twice for two different areas on each ear) and i felt they didn't know what they were doing

I guess i don't want to end up having them ' not ' re-pierce on the same hole that can still be seen (but is blocked).

Would love to hear any suggestions

Thanks for any advice ... Hugs from Lorelle xox

Not sure if Essential Beauty is in Vic but I am not impressed by some of their policies and refuse to go to them. If you want more details feel free to PM. I would suggest a tattoo parlour or a price attack hair salon.

Local pharmacies, hairdressers, tattoo shops...ask your local friends who they'd recommend.

look up a specialist piercing place or tattoo shop that does piercings - you want somewhere that will do the piercing with a needle and NOT a gun (too much scar tissue with a gun).

I would recommend going to a piercer who will do it properly with a needle (as opposed to a gun).

after getting my ears pierced at chemists when i was younger, now i only go to a proper piercer - as someone else said, a needle is far more gentle than a gun (and hurts less i think).

it looks like you're in ballarat - i know of a piercer up there so send me a PM if you'd like the name, they work out of a tatt shop i believe. they've done my nose and two cartledge piercings in my ear that i've been very happy with

Go to a pro piercer and get it done with a needle.

Gun piercing carries the risk of mass infection.

The same gun is used for every other person who got their ears done where as at a pro piercer only single use, medically sterilised and sealed needles are used.

Doesn't hurt that much - just a bit of a sting.

I'm full of piercings and would always, always reccomend people go to a REPUTABLE and PROFESSIONAL piercer. The safety and health of your ears is worth the bit of extra money they cost.

If you google Essential Beauty you'll find a lot of gross stuff about them. I have been in there myself for an eyebrow wax (I was desperate) and they didn't even clean up the room after their last wax. There were stips and hair absolutey covered in blood laying in plain site all over the benches. Mega gross. I certinally wouldn't get anyone there to pierce me.

^ Eww @ Essential Beauty - never heard of them (I'm in QLD) but that is just AWFUL.

I agree with other posters recommending going to a piercer who will do it with a needle rather than a gun - guns are just the most awful contraption and really only useful for piercing ears on babies/toddlers who squirm and need both done at once.
They are inaccurate, cannot be sterilised properly (therefore can harbour some VERY icky diseases or at the very least, germs), and because they're essentially thumping a blunt piece of metal through skin, they cause a lot of trauma to your flesh and you run a very high risk of things like cysts (and I've had four removed under general anaesthetic, so yes, they can be quite serious in some cases). I've heard that many horror stories, and I've worked with them myself as a hairdresser, I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.

Professional tattoo/piercing studios will charge you a bit more than a hairdressing salon for ear piercing, but it is definitely worth it. Pick a reputable studio in your area that will confirm and/or show you the equipment they use - prepackaged, one-use sterile needles, quality jewellery (nickel-free is always a good start), and autoclave sterilisation system should be what you're looking for.
If you want the piercing done through the existing holes, having them done with a needle will guarantee the accuracy, and reduce the risk of scar tissue, infection and cysts developing.

    Talking

Oh THANK YOU " Donna " for that heap of info as i truely believe i did have a cyst in one earlobe for many years (but no longer) ... and i just always had infections on & off for years and i always wore very high quality earrings and i couldn't work out why ???

Yep, a professional piercer sounds like the go ... and also cause i want it done with accuracy on the same holes that i had before (but are now blocked).

*** DOES IT HURT MORE THAN A GUN ???? ... CAN THEY NUMB THE AREA ???? (and HOW ???) ... (Just want to prepare myself )

Thanks a million to everyone for your kind & helpful replies

Big hugs to you ALL from Lorelle
