I have a question to add, if you don't mind me borrowing your thread for a minute Selina.I have been invited to go with friends to get pedicures together (which sounds like a LOVELY idea - I really wanted to go!) but I made up an excuse not to go because I have a small plantar wart on my big toe.
I figured they wouldn't want to be pumicing that thing, and they are mildly contagious, (although, no one in my family has gotten them from me, nor has mine spread.) Is there a rule on that? What's the protocol? If it's no biggie, then I am heading out to book an appointment ASAP!
But, if it's generally a no-no to go when you've got one, then I guess I'll just wait until I can get rid of the darn thing.
cricket - they are supposed to sterilise beforea nd after each person, and they can use gloves, so i wouldnt see it as a problm
selina - make sure youget yourself a goooood one, not just one at those nail bars. Its well worth the extra $$ to have a really good one for your first pedicure. (nail bar ones are cool after taht , but as a first treatment you want a proper one girl!!)
Selina - im glad u asked that question cause i have been thinking the same thing for ages!!
Can they really fix up badly cracked heals?
Sterla don't worry about the condition of your feet. I'm sure they have seen all kinds of feet much worse than yours!
Go get it frozen off Cricket. I've had them since I was a kid (public pools...grrrrr!) and the sooner you deal with them the less of an ordeal it will be. The liquid nitrogen is the best way. Hurts a bit for a few days but worth it.
Good morning ladies! I'm a qualified Nail Technition! Def. don't do anything to them before you go! That's our job! We see feet in all states so don't ever be embarrassed about them!
Cricket - Regarding the wart - technically it's up to the technition as to weather or not she will do your feet when you have a wart. There shouldn't be a problem though as everything is sterilised. They might just wear gloves to protect their hands. It's not really a big issue it's more nail or skin infections/cuts that cause issues!
Enjoy! There's nothing better than a good pedi when you are preggers!
Thanks Natty! Is it common for someone to be refused because of a wart? I'd be totally mortified, to be honest!I guess I could call them up and tell them beforehand, so they could let me know then, rather than turning me down in the spa when I've already got my socks off!

Well I wouldn't turn you away becuase I could simply wear gloves and the equipment is cleaned between clients!
I think you will be fine but if you want to double check just give them a call! Chances are they won't see it till they are half way through it anyway!
Naturally they can't wave a magic wand over anything to solve your problem, but if you are paying for a good pedi (ie one that includes the works like massage etc, not just a file and polish job), they can definitely go a fair way towards helping smooth things out, as well as providing you with tips and products to use at home to keep things nice and try to improve cracked heels over time.
One little trick you can do without the need to see a manicurist is to invest in some good-quality body butter (obviously you can choose from a huge range at any old department store or try Body Shop etc for some really yummy ones), and slather it onto your feet every night before bed, then pop on a pair of thick cotton socks and let it soak in overnight. You will notice a difference the next morning but keep going with it and see just how amazingly soft and nice your feet will get with regular treatment like that. You can slough away dead skin with a pumice in the shower/bath at night and then apply the body butter and watch the cracks disappear!
Well, I'm booked in for a pedicure tomorrow! Quite excited about it actually!![]()
I just got back from my pedicure - mmm, my feet are so soft and smooth now. I loved it!Well worth the money.
