I was thinking about trying this, but I question whether my hair would handle it as I have really really oily hair, I have to wash it everyday because if I dont the oil just goes nuts and my hair looks like Ive poured oil all over it.
I found the natural products stripped the color from my hair.
so Im off the wagon for that reason but my hair was soft and shiny while using them. alittle frizzier but mehh.
I would be interested in trying this but I have short hair, hence oilier, and very fine/limp. I tend to get buildup from commercial products, ie dandruff. So maybe this would be better for me.
Great! Although I did start straightening my hair again But I'm not using any product. My hair feels great. Definitely past the overcompensation greasy phase now. My hair stays cleaner for WAY longer, smells awesome, doesn't get greasy as fast and has a much healthier look and feel to it. Don't think I'll go back to products, may just use a bit of coconut oil or Shea butter for frizzier days come summer. My colour hasn't been stripped out (wish it would) and I can't wait for my hair to be completely free of colour again. But yeah, loving the no poo. WM, I would totally give it a go, your hair sounds perfect for it.
First day of no-poo and gotta say loving the feel so far. Love that squeaky clean feel. Was a bit hesitant at first, but here's hoping it clears up my product build up. Probably start with every 2nd day then progress to less often from there. Much easier to brush too.
Be prepared for your hair to go through a few weeks of total grossness if you don't use anything. If you use the homemade shampoo, the grossness time should be less. I've worked out that I need to wash my hair every 3-4 days, so that's what I do. When I was wearing it curly, every 2 days was best.
So it's been over two months of no poo. My hair is great! So, so healthy. Soft, shiny, stays clean for much longer, more manageable. I still straighten it sometimes, it feels a lot less damaged. Basically, totally loving it and never going back!
I've also been shampoo free for two months now. Mine never went particularly oily, but it does seem dry and limp now. Is there some natural thingo that I could try? What form does the Coconut oil need to be in? I can only find cooking coconut oil at the supermarket, is that suitable? And do you just rub it in there or do you wash it out after like a conditioner?
I've been using Shea butter for my dry ends, bought online. But coconut oil is good too. I believe it needs to be unrefined? But I could be mistaken. I have a tub I bought from an Indian grocers, can be used for cooking but it was in the beauty isle. What I would do is rub it into my hair until its all coated but not thickly so, then glad wrap my hair, put an old beanie on or a towel, and sleep with it in overnight. Then the next day, wash your hair. Do the treatment weekly to fortnightly. Sometimes a little tiny bit rubbed into the ends or wherever it's dry too helps, but I've found too much is yuck.
I've been doing this for a couple of months. Basically, I took the lazy/cheap option. I have lots of baking soda and acv, so I just top up an old shampoo bottle every wash. I am going a day or so extra between washes, but I still have an itchy scalp. I try not to blowdry after washing in baking soda, as it just boofs it up. However, I am overdue for a haircut so that may be contributing.
I can't say I'm convinced yet but I'll keep it up because it's cheaper than other "natural" products and I'm paranoid about chemicals. I've tried the just wet it thing, but that didnt work at all for me. My hair gets too greasy.
So if you have to wash it out, what do you wash with? I haven't washed mine with anything but water for the last two months but I notice there is some sort of build up that probably would like to be washed away. I think I have some shea butter or cocoa butter or something that did zippo for stretch marks but might be good for hair? What about bio oil?
