unlocking my inner MILF - calling all neglected mums

Hi my name is Stacey and I am a self-neglected Mum.
We all are guilty of it, it just comes with being a mum and wife doesnt it?
Been the last in the list of life, everything and everyone is more of a priority and before you know it its been absolutely months since you cut your hair or even shaved your legs!

I was looking at a friends facebook photos the other day and got seriously depressed. She always looks so good. Whether she is just in casual clothes hanging out or dressed to the nines she looks fantastic. She only has the one child and was a late starter so has the huge single girl wardrobe, she still goes out alot and has a social life, but besides that it occured to me that she makes the effort. I dont.

So instead of complaining about it and been jealous I am going to do something about it.
    Heres my plan:
I know for myself that makeup everyday and not a hair out of place is just not realistic, but there are ALOT of litle things I can do that are just for me and will make me feel better.
I started yesterday by throwing out all my old, holey manky bought when I was pregnant and never got around to throwing them out undies. I bought a 10 pack for $8 from Kmart but hey new undies none the less! It doesnt have to be about spending money does it?
I took off my chipped and almost non existant nail polish from I dont know how long ago
This morning I took an extra 10 minutes for myself getting ready. I shaved my legs and took my time instead of the rushed leave lots of hairy lines job I usually do.
Then I moisturised my scaly dry winter body and put on my new undies and already felt great.
I have my standard winter uniform that I wear, its comfy and practical - jeans, long sleeved top and a cardie but today I threw on a scarf and a pair of earrings and it wasnt hard.
My hair is usually all pulled back into a ponytail because its fuzzy and I cant be arsed with it. So I straightened my fringe and put a bit of product in the ends and it doesnt look too shabby.

Now these are little things to start with as I know that if I go to hard to fast I wont keep it up. I will do these little things everyday then next week add a couple more until they become a habit.

So whose with me?? You know you want to/need too.

Any tips, hints, ideas greatfully accepted. Also how do I get over the whats the point im not going anywhere mindset I have adopted?? Really need to get over that one.

Come on ladies dont be shy

That's wonderful!! I really need to do something. I've gotten to the point where I just don't care, and I hate it.
I sleep in my clothes. Rarely brush my hair (its short, so its OK!) I usually chuck on a bit of foundation. But thats it.
Daggy trackies and one of DP's jumpers.

I haven't shaved my legs in god-knows how long. Haven't changed my earrings in about a year.

I'm with you!! Lets MILF-ify ourselves!!

oh man, that post is my life word for word lol. i am sick of being the spam amongst the glam of all my friends lol.

and i also need to change the mindset of 'why bother when i dont actually go anywhere'. it just adds to my depressed self image of frumpiness and loneliness...

my little thing to do when i am need a spark and pick me up is to put on a face mask of a night when the girls are asleep and then put on my toner and night cream and then go crazy with the tweezers trying to wrangle in my eyebrows.

i really should get rid of the holey clothes (we had a moth issue...grrr!), problem is that it would leave me with a pair of jeans lol.

I'm going to paint my toenails.

I might actually get around to using a permanent hair dye in the next week or so.

As I look down at the hairy legs encased in faded trackies, hair scraped back in a rough pony, eyebrows growing wild on make up-less face and toenails with polish almost grown out, I wonder.... perhaps I should join you?

    Great thread!
I neglect myself too. Though lately I do try to look a little better, since we have been having unexpected visitors coming over fairly frequently! Just the other day someone came over and I was in my jammies, my house was a bomb and I was sooo embarressed! Though I had an excuse of my kids being sick for 4 days, and my friend is a mum too so likely understands, but still doesn't stop the embarrassment.
I try to make sure I put on mymore decent pants and tops (usually yoga pants/trackies at home) and I am trying to make an effort to always put on some makeup, earrings/necklace and jeans/nice pants to go out, even just to the grocery shop or dropping the kids at childcare.
Last night I had a bath, put on a face mask, shaved my legs, used some lovely smelling body wash, scrubbed my skin and moisturised when I got out. I felt so much better for it. Having 4-5hrs broken sleep every night feels a whole lot better if you don't look like death warmed up every day!
Though I have my days, like today...I'm in my ancient, holes in the crotch yoga pants and a holey jumper which is also ancient....both at least as old as DD, so 4yrs old. I guess it's all a work in progress!

I'm like you. I've started accessorizing more, wearing hats my rings and earrings more often, hair treatments in the shower or over night occasionally if I think of it
But also try to remember that she wouldn't put the pics up if they weren't flattering. We all have down days.

I'm in! I've been thinking this way for a while too, time to put the thoughts into action! My biggest problem is just staying in pjs most of the day if I know I'm not going anywhere
Thanks for the kick up the bum u needed

You must have read my mind...I've been doing this too. I've decided to embrace my curly hair instead of always straightening, because I just don't have the time anymore. So I bought some nice shampoo, conditioner and hair treatment, and have been wearing it out and nice. Today I'm going to splash out on a nice haircut and maybe a new top. I've been wearing my nice black skinny jeans lately, and pretty flats instead of my usual grotty old converse. It feels nice being a milf

    wow thats really NICE PZ

Good on you I am impressed. I hear ya on the straightening, I love it straight but it does take alot of time as mine is sooooo thick and fuzzy.
Wish I could fit a pair of nice skinny jeans but hey I can do the nice shampoo and conditioner so I will do that instead.
Change what I can instead of *****ing about what I cant!

    Fantastic idea!

I am going to start by waxing my legs once DD is in bed tonight. Please hold me accountable if I still have hairy legs this time tomorrow.

Yes, PZ, curly hair is very nooiiice (and quite different and unuuuuushual), unlike my not straight-not curly mop of frizz!

Even though right this second I'm sitting here in trackies (but I have a clean Tshirt on!) I started this sort of thing a while ago. I was sick of feeling frumpy and awful. I went back to the gym (I realise not a desire of everyone, but something I enjoy) to do something for myself.

One thing that really makes a difference to me is having my clothes ready to go the night before. While that might not mean layed out, just washed and ironed and thought about is enough. Then as soon as I get up, I get dressed/showered and ready to go for the day. That staves off the PJ days for me.

In regards to the 'but I'm not going anywhere', throw it out of your thoughts. I get dressed for me, not to up anyone else's opinion of me, but because I like the way it makes me feel. So that I don't slink past any mirrors. So that I don't suffer insecurity and inferiority when I go out because I'm comparing myself to other people. Because, as vain as it is, I like it when my husband comes home and says 'gee you look nice today!'

    Morning all MILFs!
How are we today, still going strong I hope???

First of all Tuesdays Child how are the legs?? done or on the agenda for today?

Well I am showered and smooth. I have two eyebrows again and im moisturised. Hair is in a side pony today and fringe is straightened again. Different scarf today and a new pair of earrings and I might even put on some mascara. (live on the edge hahahahha)

I actually looked forward to getting out of bed today, and I usually do the kids and everything else first before myself so this morning I got up and jumped straight in the shower and I must admit I feel good for it.

Ok so today I am going to get a hair dye to do tonight once the kids are in bed and DH is at work. I want to get some body butter because these legs are resembling old sun damaged leather at the moment.

    Oh and drink more water.

Hope we are all having a great morning and keep up the great work!
