    Start calling her Baldy

Don't even get me started about the fricken electricity! Yep we do the ONE item in the dryer, then moved onto drying smalls on the heater in her room..all day. No matter its a sunny day and plenty of room on the washing line 2 feet from the back door. She hasn't been too bad with leaving straightener on....but she leaves the electric blanket on to make up for it...and the lamp.
Then there are the SHOWERS.... eco warriors my bum!

Luckily the leccy blanket stopped working, and she got a new bed that she can't hang her lamp on. Now when she has a shower I time it to 3 mins, then turn the dishwasher on

PML I do the dishwasher thing too Lulu!!! Great minds hey!? And here I was thinking I was a real cow and that a "good mother" wouldn't have to resort to that.... teen daughters hey? She leaves 'her" column heater on all day as well...naturally, it's the biggest electricity chewer of all!!!
I can't bring myself to even visit the appropriate BB teen forum anymore... the thought of even venting about her makes my heart rate max out... Aaaaah, it's after 6pm, I can have my Mothers' Helper (glass of Chardonnay) been watching the clock ever since my last post!

ETA: Ok so i told her that "Some women on BB said they used their hair straighteners too much and now have bald patches". (You can't be too direct with 13yos) Her response was : "Yeah, but they are, like, way older than me".

Yep... that's 13yo logic for you...

I am having a very, very, small snicker while reading this as I'm sure I will be the one posting this thread in about 8+years time so I better be careful

As a user of a hair straightener, its very hard to be critical but using it multiple times a day is a bit weird. Once should be enough. I use mine every 2nd day. Maybe she needs a product to put in her hair before using it, to keep it straighter for longer IYKWIM? Or you could take her down to the hairdresser and get them to tell her what can happen with too much use. Maybe ring them first and word them up so they can make it sound worse!!!! She may listen to a professional - because really what do mum's know!

Keep the strength Bath and enjoy that glass of Chardy!

Yes, it might have to come to that Mel (relying on a hair dresser's warnings).... because seemingly I know absolutely nothing and my main agenda in life is to make her life as constricted as possible! One reason she is doing it multiple times per day lately is because of the rain. Ooooh the rain! She acts like the Wicked Witch of the West (no, hang on, that's ME) whenever I ask her to step out into the rain... the slightest drizzle... she protests about her hair getting wet... meaning curly... oh Heaven Forbid a curl!!! (she has naturally wavy hair). DH and I are plotting ways in which we can implement a hair-straightener-free holiday in January... our DD, the beach, no straightening. Is it possible? It is realistic?

Bath give up now it's pointless. my mum is a hairdresser and I still completely shagged me hair for absolutely years!!!!! Bleach, Perms, Straightening more bleach until the point where I now dye my hair it's orginal auburn colour because I just screwed it!
Maybe if she is straightening it all the time she needs a smoothing / de frizzing product that is also going to coat the hair shaft and protect if from the heat of the straightener and stop it from curling if it's humid or wet.
Also, if your gonna take her to the beach tell her "bed hair" is in and I actually buy salt water spray for my hair to get the same effect without the beach ...LOL

At my hairdressers today I took note of what she used on my hair and it was a pink WAHL - she said she prefers these over GHDS and also said never get one with climate control, apparently the WAHL gets very very hot which is what you need. When I questioned the difference between WAHL and GHD her comment was that if she thought GHD was better she would be using it but she's not! Her last WAHL lasted 2 years and she said that involved her "Trashing" it ie using it over and over day in and day out. It always has made my hair look good whenever I go!

Now I dont know what to do cause I had my heart set on a GHD- preferably the purple one - *drool*!

Thanks for listening to my grievances everyone. I don't think she has used it today... although she was home alone for an hour while I stepped out with the boys this morning. She does use a smoothing hair creme, but sparingly i think because I refuse to buy it for her... she has to buy it out of her pocket money... along with batteries for her mP3 player, junk food after school, magazines etc. She only gets $10 a week so at least she's learning to prioritise! Regarding her overall style: at least ATM she is fairly modest... avoids short short dresses... isn't packing on the make-up (only a bit of foundation over her blemishes when she goes out... not at school. Compared to her friends she's not too "high maintenance" or inappropriate really.... thought I better inject a bit of balance to my venting! LOL I'll post again after our holiday to update whether we got her to go cold turkey on the HS!
