Hairdresser in Melb for really good styling???

So i was chatting with Mum and a friend of hers while we were in England and we were talking about what we would do if we suddenly became rich.
We talked about our top 5 things that we would do for OURSELVES - no one else.

Mum said that she has always really really wanted someone to style her hair, someone that really knows there stuff and would give her a cut that would suit her face, not what was fashionable, but would really set off her features...

So, its Mums birthday in a few weeks and i have decided that this is what i am going to give her for her birthday... trouble is, i dont know where to start - should i go with a well known salon (was thinking like Tony n guy) or something else?

Please if anyone can give me some advice i would really appreciate it.

    thanks

There is a gorgeous hairdresser in the Block Arcade in the city.
Mum used to go there - and the girl who did her hair was fabulous.

I cannot for the life of me remember her name, but will have a dig around for you. She was very highly trained and was great at styling to suit individuals

    Will be back...

that is such a thoughtful birthday idea, i'm sure she will love it. i don't really have any recomendations as i'm not sure what area you are in, imo i would definatley not go to 'tony n guy' they are renoun for giving everyone the same haircut - they have set haircuts that they do depending on the season. and by the sounds of it thats not what you want!
do you have any friends with nice hair that you could ask? that way you could see the stylist has done a good job
    sorry thats not much help...

    My hairdresser is AMAZING....

she used to do the hair for vogue in paris .....

PM me if you'd like her details - she works from home now and is really reasonably priced and she flat out refuses to do something she thinks won't suit you

Oooh LimeSlice thankyou for posting that hairdresser! I have been looking for one in Melb's CBD for years!!! I would also NOT recommend Toni & Guy. The dresser there straightened out my wavy hair even though I told him not to and it was soooo noisey with thumping music and the person who washed my hair HURT!!! Not going back there... I felt too old... place is full of teenagers (so it seemed to me).

I love The Block Arcade... no thumping music! Definately going to go there soon! When I want my hair done I want to feel pampered and relaxed... not be a lump of playdough to be played with while the dresser bops around to music... sometimes it seems that it has to be all about them more than the customer doesn't it?

Well i want some where that Mum is going to be comfortable - that doesnt sound like something she would enjoy at all!

Will definatly avoid T&G... i am one of those people that doesnt really have time for my hair - and really couldnt be bothered and as such have never really gone and had a proper haircut or paid much for them!!! thats why i dont really know where to start
