I'm just wondering what the most you have or would spend on a handbag?? I'm trying to justify a bag i really really want! A friend of mine is big on handbags and has a 1k+ gucci bag. Thats a bit much for me because theres other fashion items i'd get more use out of for that money (ie, i'm big in to jeans and dresses). But I do love vintage bags, and at the moment i'm thinking i could justify say $300 for this bag, considering i would keep it a life time and after restoring it will use it as my every day handbag.
If it was a good quality classic handbag that I knew I would get tonnes of use out of I would say $300 is more than reasonable. I would probably spend up to $500. In my current situation I could not justify $1k for a handbag though, unless it was a special occasion present (like milestone b'day or something).

I'm cheap compared to you two :P $70 is around about what I'd spend on a handbag My current handbag is a Guess one that was about $200 I think but I got it from Myer when they had a sale plus used a heap of vouchers I had saved up so I only spent $35 of my own money on it. For a designer expensive handbag, I'd probably get one from ebay.
The most I have spent is $350 on a Kenneth Cole handbag when on holiday in Dubai a couple of years ago - I saw it in the shop, walked past it a couple of times and then just had to have it. I love it tho and am so pleased with my purchase. I would spend up to $500 unless of course I had a HUGE disposable income then I suppose money is no limit.
But in answer to your question, I think that amount sounds reasonable.
as to how much i would spend on a handbag...how long is a piece of string LOL! i have been known to spend *amounts* of money on items that i love. if you have the cash, or at least if it's not a pinch, then i'd say go for it. especially if it is the real deal!
my DH and I spend $ on good basics as we were in the fortunate position to do so (not so much now that i have no paid employment ) and we both agree that those we have forked out extra for have lasted the distance a whole lot better. so yeah, sure i have paid loads of money on gucci or prada shoes...but they have lasted the distance, i wear them all the time and they still look great! would i buy gucci sunnies? prolly not, as they are known for their leather and i know the quality of the shoes are good.
tell your DH that it is an 'investment for future savings' LOL!
i have a $3000.00 louis vuitton bag that i bought myself in paris. but do you think i ever use it now??? nope. baby bags for me. at the moment, i'd spend about $100, but i bug big handbags that can be used for nappy bags. if you want it, get it.
If you think you're going to get alot of use out if it I say go for it! If it's still going in 5 years time it's basically paid for itself. And lets face it, these days you get what you pay for, so if it's good quality it should last the distance.
I have found the best shop that sells leather vintage style oversized handbags (come nappy bags ) around that price mark. When I get further along I'm going to buy one as a baby present to me! hehe. You can't go wrong, if you love it you'll get loads of use out of it!
Before having the boys and when I was working DH spent $470 on an Oroton handbag for me. I don't use it that much to justify the price and to be honest the quality isn't as good as I would expect for that price.... but it is a classic style that will never date, I don't think.
DH recently spent about $130 (I think) on a Crumpler backpack which I use every day and is fantastic quality.
I don't judge an item by cost anymore: more on quality, durability, and most importantly the COST PER USE. If you use something daily and it's perfect then the price would almost be irrelevent. But it has to be perfect, that's the tricky bit.
Okay please don't bid and pip me because i'm still in the lead! but its a circa 1970s Chanel bag, its genuine as it has all the hallmark traits and also a pic of the serial number. Plus i don't imagine there were many fakes back then.

I'd pay more in theory but can't really justify more at this point.
