Perhaps try Etsy? Often lots of old-school patterns, might find something she like that you can make easily or adjust the length of.

ETA: And capris? Maybe have a look for some pedal pushers in Miss Shop or Cotton On or similar.

I have the same problem for my girls - not that they are overly tall, but I'd rather my 11 and 9yo daughters didn't have their 'bottom biscuits' hanging out for the world too see, plus the shorts on offer for girls these days just aren't protective enough. I gave up looking for girls clothes and brought boys shorts for them. The last few seasons pastels and bright coloured denim have been in fashion for boys so I've brought some of those and just plain navy drill shorts from big w for around home. Maybe you can buy a plain navy pair of drill shorts and then sew some funky fabric patches on them to brighten them up for her?

Thanks for all the suggestions!! Compiling some pics for her in the morning.
Never thought of ladies smaller sizes, might have a look at those too.

Toomanyshoes, my 7yo is 147cm she's nearly as tall as me!!

I got some knee length denim shorts from Kmart. I think you can buy online now.
