I am going to go and splurge on like $400 of really nice MAC makeup (i've been saying this since last Dec i think), as i'm owed like 3 birthday presents, so DH said i could have whatever i wanted.
Is it best to go to a Myer counter and get a makeover to help choose colours? I'm a bit shy and boring on the makeup colour side of thing, and have funny skin, so i want some help. or do they have shops where you can get more help?
^ Ooh, lucky you!! I can only imagine what I'd do with $400 to spend at MAC *daydreams... drooling*
I'm not sure if MAC has any stand-alone stores (I know they definitely don't where I am anyway, I usually order them online or wait for the very rare occasions I get down to Brisbane and go to Myer and DJ's), but the cosmetic girls in department stores are usually old hands at helping you out if you're a bit confused or want to try some new things but aren't sure how to go about it. They can sometimes go to extremes a little though (a friend of mine got a Napoleon makeover one day while we were having 'recreational time' during a school trip and walked out into Queen St mall with bright purple and green eyeshadow and spiky false lashes - she looked awesome, for a night out clubbing, but a bit out of place for 2pm on a weekday!) so if you do go for a makeover, explain to the assistant that you want a look that will fit with daytime, and suggestions for night-suitable looks, iykwim. They are very helpful when it comes to matching shades with your skin, hair and eye colours though so definitely ask advice if you don't feel too confident
As far as prices go, I find that they are generally the same throughout department stores etc, but can vary by a couple of dollars online vs dept stores etc - eg, you can pay $32 for a shadow from the MAC website, but if you buy at Myer you might pay $34 (or you might pay $30), kind of thing... they don't vary by much so it's not that big a deal, I don't think it matters
HTH Have fun splurging!!
Oh, THANKS a million DONNA (GothMum) ... i never thought about checking to see if there was a colour chart ... Whoo hoo i love the one you have Electric Eel (looks like a colour i'm after) ... and the Violet one is the one i'm in love with every time i check it out in the Mac dept in Myers
What it is i have two cheapie eyeshadows in bright colours i just love to wear BUT they don't wear well at all ... and MAC seem to be the only cosmetic company with vivid/bright eyeshadows !!! So, i will take them into MAC and try match them up.
I wear the bright eyeshadows as kind of like a thick liner above the top lid but only half way & a subtle eyeshadow over the rest of the eyelid ... i get many super comments when i do ... though if i wore the bright colour all over the eyelid at my age (43) i'd look like a drag queen, LOL Oh, the JOYS of being young ... lucky you Donna (i too use to wear all black in my early 20's ... so silly half the neighbour hood looked scared of me ... Oh, i so miss my black very pointy suede boots ... and don't get me started on all the buckles ... Ooooohhhhh)
