I did feel it more as he did the very top & the bit near my arm. I'm guessing my colouring did hurt more because its colouring, not shading. Even the outline of the names didn't feel half as bad as the purple outline.
I'm not sure how a verse would look on my other shoulder, but I'll have a thinkk about it. I did think about just her name on the inside of July fore arm, or on my ankle too.
I have three, two large ones.
One in a similar spot to you, but on the other side, one on my chest, starts in my cleavage and curves right around my left boob across my ribs and a memorial tatt on my wrist.
I have a very high pain tolerance so was not to freaked out by it but the two most painful spots I have had done are the solar plexus (the most painful and that was shading) and my ribs, which was more outline (seven of my kids initials)
I think it can be more the spot rather than outline or shading and it can be time. The one one my chest was 6hrs so toward the end every touch hurt!
Clover. Have you spoken to her parents about having her name inked? This might sound stupid because its your way of honouring her BUT it might be something they are against because its their child, not yours. I know I am extremely close to my brothers kids but if something happened and I got ink including their name, he would flip as that is something just for them kwim? Something symbolic would be ok, but the actual name would really pee them off. Just a thought as something to discuss with them before you do it so it doesn't cause angst for you at an already difficult time
In terms of pain, that's a really personal thing. I have several tattoos and would say I could tell the difference between solid color and shading only by the pressure he applied. There was no difference in my perception of pain/discomfort for the two actions...
I have 4 quite large pieces and one of them on my ribs, I would say if the one on your shoulder hurt that the one on the ribs would be even worse.
I agree with all the others in terms of outlining tends to be a bit more painful, however if they are shading in many different colours on the one area then this is also painful. The more time they are in one spot like Rainbowbrite said anything is going to hurt.
They use the same needles for heavy colouring as they do shading (the ones that look like 20 tiny needles all in one) so colouring/ shading pain should be about the same.
