Hi Everyone. I need some help!! Thankyou in advance!!
I am a Hairdresser, and already work for my self (I rent a chair in a salon, it is really busy!), and I am looking to launch a Mobile Service in the suburb that I live in (about 30 minutes from my salon).
What I was wondering is what YOU would HONESTLY be prepared to pay for a mobile hairdresser.
I am aiming to service more of the "Family" market, so kids and parents, as well as busy working Mums who can't get to the salon during the week and I am going to put together some family packages.
I DON'T want this to be a cheap and nasty service, more a quality service for busy families to make it convenient for them to get there hair done at a time that suits them.
Not only that, (without sounding conceited!!), I have won lots of awards, including some national ones, and have been in the industry for over 10 years now, so I am not going to sell myself short iykwim!!
In the salon we work on around $60 an hour when pricing our work. I think that lot of people assume that a mobile service should be cheaper, because it is not in the salon, but at the same time you have to take into account travel and petrol etc.
I think it is more of a luxury/convenience service rather than a cheaper way of doing it? What do you think?
I would be using excellent quality hair products and colours etc as well.
If you could tell me if you are in the country or the city too, that would be great!!'
So what would you pay for:
Ladies Style Cut?
Mens Style Cut?
Pre-School Cut?
Primary Cut?
Secondary Cut?
"Family Cut Package" - say 2 adults and 2 kids?
Also what would you pay for a Colour at home?
What would you pay for a straight Tint?
What would you pay for a half head of foils????
Any thoughts etc would be much appreciated! Be as honest as you like!!!!

my mobile hairdresser charges me $90 for a cut, tint and blowwave. I have really thick hair, so she charges me a bit extra, but I think the normal price is $80
When it comes to mobile hairdressers, whilst I know that there is travel time etc involved, there are no overheads like the salon rent, electricity etc.
You would be using your client's electricity etc so this is why I believe it should be cheaper.
Ladies Style Cut? Probably around $20
Mens Style Cut? $17
Pre-School Cut?$10 - I am shocked at the pries hairdressers charge for this!
Primary Cut? $15
Secondary Cut?$15
"Family Cut Package" - say 2 adults and 2 kids? $40-45
Also what would you pay for a Colour at home? Depends on the length of hair of course - I have med length hair and I would say $50 would be my max
What would you pay for a straight Tint? Not sure on the price of this normally so I'm not sure
What would you pay for a half head of foils????Again, for med length no more than $50
I had a wash in the laundry sink and a cut and blowwave for $50. I only pay $60 at the salon so thought it was a bit expensive seeing as it was my own shampoo, with my head upside down in the sink and I even had to sweep up my hair after she left.
Thanks Guys, this is a great help, I really don't want to overcharge, but at the same time make it worthwhile for me.
I would be sweeping up after myself for sure , and using my own professional prouducts too.
What are your thoughts on having to have your head rinsed over the laundary or bathroom sink? Would this bother you at all? I have a shower head i can use, and a portable basin as well, but it can be difficult to set up depending on the person and space in the bathroom or laundry etc.
Thanks again, and keep them coming, this is so helpful to me!!
