Skirts and flats?

flats will be fine, you could also get some nice boots with no heel....there are plenty available. They look nice with skirts & dresses also.

Have you tried a lower wedge heel? with the more even distribution of weight it might be ok with your knees. I have knee issues and they don't seem to flare up with wedges.

Otherwise some flat boots as suggested other flats could look ok too. Hard to tell without seeing you in the outfits though LOL

Wedges are a lot comfier and easier on the joints than heels, if having a heel is absolutely necessary. But imo, flats are fine in a corporate environment provided they're 'dressy' flats and don't look out of place with tailored clothes I would find it very hard to accept that women MUST wear some form of heel as part of a work uniform in a corporate setting, I'd consider it discrimination on the basis of gender - blokes don't have to wear heels so why should women be forced to risk damaging their feet and joints?
If you need some ideas, Wanted Shoes and Style Tread offer lots of really gorgeous, high-quality flats in all different styles. (Psst: big sales on atm, too!) If I were working in an office where the dress code is quite strict, I'd see absolutely no problem with some dressy flats - especially if you have a bad ankle or knee (or just don't like torturing the balls of your feet by wearing heels constantly!).

I hadn't thought of wedges. I'm not so concerned about being told off about it - since I've been thinking about it I've noticed LOTS of women wearing them and indeed I am wearing flat boots today with my pants, but I'm just a bit leery of how it will look... but it seems others can pull it off so maybe so can I?!

Absolutely, love the ballet flat. You can def get away with it plus some are gorgeous like the ones will a bit of sparkle. Plus comfort is the key so that is important. Also positive, flats look gorgeous with funky stockings. Another option is kitten heel shoes. You may know what they are but tiny little heels, some 2 cm tall, look fab too.
