I'm going to bypass GHD and go straight for a Cloud 9. Apparently they were designed by the original designer of the GHD! So obviously, they are going to be a bit better.
heat guard thing, temp control, hibernation mode... yep I'm getting one

OMG, couldn't live without mine!! I use them 5-6 days a week! I've had them for about 6 or 7 years and they're still going strong! I did recently upgrade to the Cloud 9 straighteners though as my hair dresser convinced me I needed the 'new technology', lol. Cloud 9 are also $300 and made by the original designers of GHDs, they just have some new technology to make them even better than GHDs. They are amazing! Google them for more info.

So, if you were to buy new, I'd get Cloud 9 if you can find them in your area as they're only selling them at selected salons at this stage. If you want some GHDs, I'd be happy to sell my old ones to you cheap as they're just sitting there doing nothing and there is nothing wrong with them! Let me know if you're keen

That's what I do roughly too. They're brilliant!

JM - the Cloud 9's are amazing. I doubted that ANYTHING could come close to GHDs but alas, the Cloud has won

PZ - have PM you hon I'm a bit shocked by how much a pair of well loved GHDs go for to be honest (they really hold their value!!) but as I said in my PM, I'll do a bit more research and will let you know what I think they're worth.

I found the Cloud 9s at an online store for $248 including postage. Does that sound like a good price for it? There were also extra accessories to buy for it - like rollers. Does anyone have any of these? Are they any good? What do you use them for?

Would the wide plates be better, I usually have hair a little longer than my shoulders though sometimes get it cut a little shorter than my shoulders but never any shorter. I may let it grow but I get to impatient and bored with it so I usually get it cut before it gets too long. I have only ever had the regular width plates but if wider plates are quicker and work better (and they are what my hairdresser uses when she straightens my hair) then I want to think about those.

Not sure about the extra accessories but given you can curl your hair with the straighteners, the rollers seem a bit odd

I had the wide plates initially (by mistake) but they were too wide for my hair and I found them very awkward. As you know, my hair is short now (between my ears and shoulders) but even when it's really long, I've always used the slim plates. But if your hair dressers always uses wide plates on your hair then they sound like the go for you. They can be difficult to use if you do get a shorter cut though where the slim plates are really good allrounders.

Wide plates tend to end up with me burning my forehead! I suggest the thin ones, plus you can curl with them!

Oh, I think I need a cloud 9. If I had a dollar for every time we have got half way somewhere and I've turned to DH and said "did I turn off my hair straightener?" I could have bought ALOT of cloud 9s!
Mine is used everyday too, dunno what brand it is but I was only looking at it the other day thinking it looked a bit dead XD

They are the best! Well worth the money. Had mine for around 3yrs & I swear by them, a little discolouring on the plates but no wear. And mine turns itself off if I forget & leave it on......which ive done a time or two :S

My GHDs turn themselves off too. I thought they all did after 30 minutes of no use (so if you leave them turned on sitting on the bench accidentally)

Me too! I was driving out of town for the weekend and suddenly thought i hadn't turned it off, went back, sure enough it was on!! 20 minutes extra driving well spent!
