I used to do similar stuff to avoid chemicals but I don't anymore. I used to grate pure soap into an old laundry liquid container and top it up with warm water & shake it. It made great laundry liquid and cost next to nothing. At one stage I was making my own toiletries and house cleaning products but after a few years lost interest in it.
