I have just ever so prematurely made myself a maternity dress, would like to go on and make more, and patterns for maternity wear are pretty slim pickings, so I will have to design my own from existing ideas, and I'm not 100% sure about what works best.
So - what is/was your favourite item of maternity wear? What made it awesome? (you looked hot, it was super comfy/stretchy/cool, hid/emphasised your bump, had a broad waistband/adjustable tie. What styles worked best? Stretchy wrap dresses? top and pants combo?
Any ideas/comments/contributions will help me out. Thanks!
I loved my jeans with the normal looking waisband but hidden elastic in there. I really hate the ones with the trakkie top or sides, they always show and look way to grandma for me
i had a cotton baby doll style dress made from like t shirt material, With ties at the back and covered the shoulders with a gathered look around the breast area.
A few empire line tops that I have the sit under the bust then out, one is dress length that I wear with leggings and the other with pants! Neither are maternity wear either - just larger sizes of normal clothes I would buy! There is a pic in my gallery of one I wore the other day to a hens night! I also have 2 gorgeous maxi style dresses that if the weather had been warmer I would have worn this pregnancy but it has been too cold!
My favourite things during winter were long sleeved stretchy T shirts worn with mat jeans. I was in the third tri by then and flowy tops just made me look absolutely enormous and fat (not pregnant).
During summer my favorite was a flowy no sleeved top that had a cami under it. I wore this with 3/4 length mat jeans.
I'm still wearing all my favourite winter stuff around the house even though I don't need to.
I also loved Bonds Belly bands. I'm sure you could make those up easily enough. Towards the end I wore them constantly to extend my usual wardrobe and they were also handy to cover my tummy when breastfeeding.
