Hi Gracie. I'm a slacker too so I got some McCormick slow cooker flavour bases from the supermarket. They are made especially for slow cookers. there is a mild chicken curry one. there is a lamb one too but you could leave the lamb out and just add more vegies I haven't actually used it yet but it looks delicious on the packet!!! Hi

Just started using my slow cooker in the last few weeks.................. am i the only person that can burn something in a SC???? Man! i made a sausage casserole and it burnt around the edges, was salvageable but not perfect IYKWIM!

How does the Auto setting work?

Thanks for all the recipes in the SC recipe thread, that is awsome, going to give a few a go.

Ange - I want to know what the go is with the Auto setting too! I managed to ruin some cannelloni so don't feel bad for burning a casserole. I don't understand how canelloni can even cook properly in a SC! All the edges stayed dry and the pasta just stuck together. I ended up giving it to the dog .

Gracie - I have just bought a couple of sachets of the McCormicks SC mix. I'm going to try one of them this week.

Thanks for the McCormicks advice BTW everyone, I finally found some at Coles. I don't know why our Safeway don't have it, they must be behind the times!

Ok not sure about other SC's but on mine the Auto cooks it on high first, not sure for how long, then switches itself to low. This is so when you have meat in it cooking it's not left out uncooked as such. Make sense ?

As for the sausage casserole, if it has sugar in it it will burn. Things with sugar will caramelise and make it burn easier.

Tomorrow I'm doing a basic chicken leg recipe.

    BBQ Chicken Legs

    1kg chicken legs
    1 cup BBQ sauce

Take the skin off chicken legs
coat with BBQ sauce & cook on low for 6 hours.

    OOORrrrrr.....

    1kg chicken legs
    1 tin diced tomatos
    1/2 onion chopped finely
    1 tsp mustard powder
    1 clove garlic crushed
    2 tsp worstershire sauce
    1 tbsp tomato paste
    salt & pepper
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper for some spice

Mix all the ingrediants bar the chicken. Pop in SC for an hour on high, skin chicken legs & pop into slow cooker for 6 hours on low. I'm lazy and put it all in at once.

Serve with salad & roast veges. yum!!
