    Thanks JM

You're right, DH being okay about it all means that I feel a bit better about it all too. I'm looking forward to having a love life with my husband that doesn't revolve around my cycles and HPT's

    **Update**

DH had his vasectomy done yesterday afternoon. He was a little uncomfortable last night but today he is fine. He has only taken 1 painkiller and 1 panadol since the procedure.
I thought I would be upset that it is all done and so final, but to be honest I am actually really relieved. I can't wait to enjoy being with my husband without the fear of an unplanned pregnancy.

If we had the chance to change anything, I would probably book him in for earlier in my pregnancy or a little while after the baby is born. Last night really sucked having to do everything for 4 kids by myself and being so heavily pregnant.

I'm so glad that it all went okay and your DH is doing fine!

We are waiting until after the baby is born for my DH to go and have his done - mainly for the time off to recover but that's good advice. Thanks

Just thought I would add in our experience. DP had a vasectomy under general which tends to mean a longer recovery. He had it Wednesday and back to work Tues (Mon was a public holiday) and it worked out well time wise as he was still a bit sore. Its been almost two weeks and he's still getting some funky sensations around the stitches but mostly good.

    DH had his on Wed.

Did any of your partners have a breathing tube inserted? DH woke up with a screaming throat and was told that it was because they'd just taken the tube out. That part of the GA was also something to paralyse him so he needed help to breathe.

His recovery is going okay. He was pretty out of it on Thurs and kept up with the prescription painkillers. Yesterday he was up a bit more, we ran some errands and today he's gone to work (he's a tradie). Will see how he pulls up when he gets home.

PakRag, I think the need for breathing tube or not has more to do with what the person's throat anatomy is like than the type of sedation used. You can have nasty throat soreness after a GA without intubation too, although that's less common.

If it was a twilight sedation the breathing tube is not needed. If its s GA ( fully unconscious) then tube is used. I would have thought a vasectomy would of been a twilight though.

Do you need s gp referral? We are looking at this within the next 6 months.

Thanks, it was a full GA.

We went to our GP for a referral and he had four to choose from. We chose to go private, not sure if you need a referral for public.
