Weighing up Vasectomy vs Tubal Ligation - Anything I'm missing?

Is there anything in the hormonal affects a V have on men? I seem to remember my MIL said something about lowering testosterone, which can lead to all sorts of problems? We will be facing the same question soon.

My husband suggested he have it done. We've been told by our GP's that he would not be referred to anyone because we are both too young (and we have no idea how this all works).
He will be going in to get done ASAP though... I've had enough pregnancy scares since having DD and when I thought I was UTD again it wasn't a happy feeling, so I know for sure we are done.

How old are you? We'd like the other half to get done, he's 30. Is there a magic age where you stop being "too young"?

DH and I were in our mid 20's when we were considered too young for both V and TL. The dr eventually agreed to refer DH when he was 27 after we had an unplanned pregnancy. He didn't have it done until 2 years ago though.

The reason we went for V over TL was purely because Vasectomies are much easier than TL.

My DH had a vasectomy a few months ago, He had it done on a friday and was back at work on the monday. He choose to have the V because I'd had the babies

Rory, there is no evidence that a vasectomy reduces a the blood testosterone level so there should be no issues with that. The studies show that any erectile dysfunction or decrease in desire is psychological and responds to counselling.

Rory, there has been absolutely no affect on my DH at all afterwards except that he's not deadly now The testes continue to produce sperm, they just can't be ejaculated and they will be reabsorbed by the body. For some men there will be a decrease in sperm production over time after a vasectomy.

One of my gf's hubby has just had it done and has had no dramas (he's in his forties) and another is about too (he just turned 30) From what I've read it is a much simpler op for men and there can be all sorts of nasty side effects for women particularly if you have had problems with your periods previously.
I wouldn't get a TL done we will get DH done, not for a while yet tho

One thing the two boys have been told by their docs is that it will take 30 ejaculates to rid themselves of live swimmers...something I never knew!!

DH got the snip. We had the discussion and if I had c/s with DD2 I would get tubes tied, but if not he would get snip. That was the deal.
We went in (yes I went and watched ) all over in an hour, he drove home, we went shopping after. He was a little tender but he was fine. He went to work 2 days later!

Its easier for men, but each to their own I guess!
