So that means it's now much harder to make a freezer stash of lasagna, pies, and more importantly for DH, cakes etc for his smoko. I'd planned on making healthy snacks for DD too once I was on leave, yummy sweets that are still healthy and less processed, but now I can't.
We can't afford a new oven yet but do have a Baby WeberQ. So I can put something in there with the lid down. The problem when using it as a BBQ is that the flame is a ring around the outside so the cooking is very uneven, so I'm thinking I need to put whatever I'm baking in a tray of water.
We use our BBQ like an oven all the time. Keep the gas on lowish, it actually heats up a lot in there. We use a pizza stone sometimes to even out the heat, but we have also cooked on top of our solid grill plate, with a baking rack on top so the tray is held off the hottest part but the heat can still circulate around.
My DH is a Weber fanatic and we've baked on it - there's a cookbook with instructions that I refer to. Basically you put down a double layer of foil and put a trivet on top and then the lasagne. If you're baking pastry you put foil on the trivet too.
Recipe book is called Australia's own cookbook for the Weber Q.
Thanks Snowy Love, I'll look that up A raised tray thingy is a good idea, I have one that will fit. The only thing I'm not going to know is temps and times, the WeberQ doesn't have temps like an oven. Going to be a bit of trial and error I think!
