Homemade custard.....

DH is craving custard and I have scoured my fav recipe sites but thought I would check in here to see if anyone knows of an easy and foolproof custard recipe!!

I used to use this one at the nursing home...
This is the base recipe, so you can extrapelate it out to how muc you want this will make 2 serves.

1 cup milk
1 tsp cornflour
1 tsp sugar
1-2 drop vanilla essence
1 egg

Beat eggs and sugar until soft
Bring milk to boil in med pan
Add sugar and egg to milk off the stive, whisk contantly
Blend cornflour with cold milk to a paste and add to mixture
Keep whicking until thinkened
Add vanilla to taste

LOL Tan, I use pretty much the same recipe as Limeslice, except use 4 eggyolks..

But I just wanted to say.. Isnt a pregnant woman meant to crave something and NOT the husband??!! Just make me laugh a little

Only 1 tsp? Does that make it sweet enough?

So Veronica, with your recipe, do you just make meringues at the same time or something, to use up the egg whites?

You can add more if you like nelle, just taste it and see - just depends how sweet you like it.
I found though that if you are serving it with something sweet like apple pie, then it should be sweet enough. Careful about adding too much though, other wise it would work with the amount of egg.

Nelle - YEP!! I've been making pavlova with the egg whites.. mmmm pavlova YUMMMM If only I wasnt on a diet LOL
