    Cake FAIL! HELP needed!

SO. im trying to make a giant cup cake. i have an old pudding basin, like the ones you would steam a pudding in. im on my second attempt and its failing fast!!

Bassically it isnt cooking in the middle and burning on the outside!! and its risen really high in the middle. ovens was ment to be at 160 degrees but after it started t burn and was still wobbly in the middle i turned it down and put tin foil on top. the first attempt was so solid, dry but still stodgy in the middle. this one is probably going to be the same even though i started it off at 150 degrees.

Its for a friends kids birthday tomorrow. i dont know why i offered!! im kicking mysekf!! HELP

What about putting it in a water bath whilst its cooking in the oven? The water would help the cooking process like it does with custard and such?

Cover it with baking paper not foil and keep temp at 150. Hard to undo once its started to burn though.

I think it's the basin. They're not designed to bake in the oven - when you steam in a pot there's no chance of burning the edges like in an oven. The actual giant cupcake ones are metal like a caketin. Sorry it didn't work out.

I think it is the basin too. I have a dolly varden tin with a metal rod in the middle, which is suppose to help it cook evenly & it doesn't. I'm sure your friend will be thankful even if it isn't what you originally intended.
