Macaroons - first go, not good.

Not sure if there is already a thread, I think their should be a "sticky" thread. These are so good, I tried to make them this morning. Didnt turn out the best. I strongly suggest u leave them out for 20-30 mins before baking and 'tap' the tray underneath before baking at 150 deg celcius for 14 mins. Plus didnt have a proper piping bag, so cut a corner from a sandwich bag

On You tube there are a few good tutorials. I also did a boo-boo by adding the coloring to the sugar/almond meal (not the sugar/egg whites beaten bit).

They did taste similar though I guess.

I only had blue colouring so it did look abit unappetizing (esp or DH)!

I want to try the choc ones and strawberry next.

Has anyone perfected them, made to look like the Lindt cafe ones, yummo.

I tried, got all inspired after a MasterChef episode, My cousin came over and we made orange coloured ones. They were the funniest looking things ever, but they tasted okay. I haven't tried them again, but should give it another go. Another cousin made some recently, they appeared on her blog and they are absolutely gorgeous. Very jealous at her skill!

Yeah they sound pretty easy to make, especially the ingredients as I had all of it in my cupboard except for 'pink'.

Pac - wow, orange wud have been interesting to see. (Good for halloween) with choccie cream. I have a cousin who is very good at cupcakes, (grrr!) but then she did a course. I would love to attend a macaroon course.

Def. watch You tube if u wanna try it again, have a more understanding for next time.

Is it me or have they been around for a long time or a short time? Its like when i came back from living overseas for 4 yrs in 1999, mud cakes were all the 'rage'...

I think they've been around for a long time, but the trend is starting. Cupcakes are huge now, aren't they - but our mum's were making them for us when we were little. We just did a white cream for the macaroons - I think we spent more time laughing than anything else. One of my piping bags (a real cheap one) burst as my cousin was squeezing it, so we had orange splattered everywhere. It was so funny. I don't care about the outcome so much, as long as there's been fun getting there.

Party of Five posted this thread last week ... she did PM the recipe she used off a blog. I haven't had a go yet but the lady that wrote the blog analysed everything trying to make the most user friendly macaroon recipe. It's a blog website so I think it is okay to post here Not So Humble Pie: Macaron 101: French Meringue
