    Making custard with oat milk?

Can you make home made custard with oat milk rather than regular milk?

Also what do you use to sweeten it for a baby? I'm not keen to add sugar so was thinking fruits. What ones have you found work best?

I've made it using rice milk - turns out the same but tastes like rice milk not creamy. When I was making it for my DD I didn't usually add sugar, because the rice milk is sweet already - but i'm not sure if oat milk is sweet in the same way? I would puree some fruit or use the ready pureed tubs (goulburn valley) and she ate the lot every time LOL.

Depending on how old your baby is, you can make it using custard powder, or just cornflour, or just egg/egg yolks and add a couple of drops of (real) vanilla. I also would do it like a baked custard sometimes too. Just experiment, I only ever made tiny batches, like a cup of milk at a time. If you want to introduce some texture you could try doing semolina or rice puddings as well.

Thanks marydean, Oat milk is a bit nutty if anything I think, not sweet like rice milk. I ended up making it with 1/2 rice milk and 1/2 goats milk and I put about 1/2 a tsp of vanilla paste of which I looked at the label afterwards to see that it has sugar in it anyway I'm sure such a small amount if the batch I made is forgiveable. I gave DS about 1.5 tablespoons of the custard with 1/4 tsp of molasses to see if he would like the taste and he really went for it! So all in all I think it's a pretty health treat for the little munchkin Oh and then this morning I just gave it to him plain with some ground up sunflower seeds and that tasted really good too. Think I can just make up a plain batch and then add whatever frozen fruit purees I have or molasses or whatever.
