So, I made apple crumble for dessert tonight. Everyone seems to have their own version, and mine is rarely the same. Tonight's was:
Plain flour
Oats
Coconut
Flaked almonds (usually I use macadamia nuts)
1tsp sugar (usually I use brown sugar)
Ground linseeds
Cinnamon
Tbs olive oil spread crumbed through (sometimes I use butter)
What do you put in your crumble? And what do you serve it with?
I make a basic flour/butter/sugar crumble mix but always double the quantities so it's really thick (I love the slightly gooey bits where it's touching the fruit!) and serve with home made custard.
I had originally found this on the all-recipes website. It was amazing, very traditional! I had made it for a lunch for about 30 people and I even had some older German couples ask me if I was German! DH loves it, I think the secret is in the vanilla....
1 cup plain flour
3/4 cup (packed) dark brown sugar
3/4 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup coconut
1 tablespoon cinnamon (ground)
2 teaspoons nutmeg (ground)
2/3 cup butter (melted)
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
Combine flour, brown sugar, rolled oats, coconut, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large bowl until evenly mixed through.
Melt butter (do not burn or boil it) and add vanilla essence to butter, stir through.
Add butter mix to dry ingredients and mix well using a fork. Ensure all ingredients are moist and mixture has a crumbly texture.
